1185573 2011-03-12 23:42:00 Hi all, just a quick question about expected battery life, apple says standby = 300 hours, i guess that is with the phone display dimmed and nothing running.

I had a 3GS 32GB, apps loaded with location and notifications were yahoo and exchange mail on push, google maps, facebook and maybe a couple more. This unit would get a couple of days before i had to charge, until my 3yr old put it in the loo!
Anyway, new iPhone 4, with above apps and I have actually turned off noticifactions and shutdown most of the location services, however from 100% i lost 20% in 2 hours. At 10pm last night at 100%, 7.30 this morning it was 10%!!!
This cant be right surely...I have shutdown all tasks to ensure nothing is running in the background too!

I know the 4 has double the memory and faster processor, however I cant believe I cant get 12 hours out of this battery.

Do you think its a dud?

1185574 2011-03-13 03:18:00 Nope, I'd believe that...

Try a factory reset, don't install any apps or configure any accounts, see what happens on Standby when it's used just for a phone? Perhaps try leaving it overnight, or for a day on a Saturday or something when you're less likely to use it ?

had a similar experience as you with my iphone 4, all i did was charge it fully, turn it off and back on again. solved the issue! my guess is that some app must have been running in the background causing the heavy battery drain. give it try.

Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of having a Smartphone ?

Yep, sure does. But in the end I would rather have the functionality of a [simple] phone than none at all.

1185579 2011-03-13 18:46:00 Seems like if that's required, then the device is unsuitable for the purpose for which it was sold, and should be returned for a replacement or refund under the CGA ;) Chilling_Silence (9)
1185580 2011-03-13 19:37:00 Nah, Im going to take it in, I have a few colleagues here with 3GS and 4, those with 4 say they get 2-3 days at least before charging and thats with push, locations, notifications and lots of apps on the taskbar!

11pm last night 100%, this morning at 7.15am, 8%...now you cant tell me thats rights, if I had a sleep in, it would be dead!!...Apple state 300 hours standby, Im not even sniffing 10% of that, I'm losing 10% per hour! FGS!

That actually doesn't close down the apps mate, it remembers which apps are running and returns to state....you have to double click home button to get taskbar which show which apps are running in the background, press and hold any app to get red circle with horizontal line, then touch each app you want to kill and they disappear...this isnt deleting, its killing the app!
