1147502 2010-10-25 04:58:00 I'm off on holiday in a few weeks (yay!) and one of my destinations is Bangkok. I've heard that Thailand is not really known for quality cheap electronic products (unlike Hong Kong & Singapore). Anybody been to Bangkok able to comment on this? Are there bargains to be had? :D

Thanks :)

1147504 2010-10-25 05:56:00 No idea.

But have fun! And maybe share a couple photos if you could, some of us don't get out of the house much. Or, in my case, I only leave for work, and trips to the bottle store...

Anyway, have fun!

1147507 2010-10-25 19:59:00 I was there a few years ago and the electronics weren't that cheap even then. Personally, I wouldn't buy anything electronic in Asia unless you can be sure that it is the genuine article.

Thailand is great for cheap DVDs, CDs, games & clothing though - so go crazy :)

1147508 2010-10-25 20:09:00 Looks like I should concentrate my shopping on clothes then! :D

I plan to take heaps of photos, and just bought myself a Kodak Zi8 (flip technology HD mini-camcorder) to capture some videos!

And Plod, no, that will not include any ping pong shows ...

1147509 2010-10-25 20:17:00 Clothes & Food are really cheap. Try the markets, fantastic. Taxis are cheap also.

You will enjoy it don't worry about the crowds, most people are great to deal with. Spent a week there last year.

1147510 2010-10-25 20:26:00 I agree with Arnie. I wasn't brave enough to try the food being cooked and sold on the streets. Although so many locals obviously enjoyed it.
The markets are fun.

Yes, it is crowded, but the taxis are used to being able to get through it easily.

I have been to Thailand / BKK 4 times, ate much food from street vendors and never got sick, nada, zip, nil. This includes eating in some tiny dirty cafes and still no problems.

But in India I got terrible dysentery in spite of avoiding street food and taking all precautions.

Jen - I sent you a PM re BKK accommodation, etc.
