1186247 2011-03-16 00:23:00 What site is terrible on your PC ? I just tried the link waldok posted with the fish test :D the only time my crappy old 9600GSO card even thinks about straining is when I load up 1000 fish, even then it still scores at 54 out of 60 FPS.
.

I suspect it isn't the PC that determines that - more like how good your broadband is.

I tried it on FF, OK - then Chrome - faster but not by much. IE - nah it insisted I download a new version!! Stuff that.

I went back to open a couple of sites Via FF, as the shortcuts weren't in IE - that lasted all of 5 seconds -- FF is slower.

Yep. It's IE. Wanted me to download unnamed updates first too.

1186250 2011-03-16 12:27:00 Some of those tests don't work for me. The fish tank I just get a white screen and the galactic demo I just get a black screen with sound. The Kung Fu game doesn't work either.

Hi Trev sorry to hear it isn't working the way it should for you.

It sounds to me like a glitch with a graphics system somewhere so here are a few things I would try:
1) After installing IE9, do a reboot.
2) Install the latest drivers for your NVIDIA card from nvidia.com, they updated many of their drivers in January. As a bonus, the four PCs I've done this on all improved their Windows Experience rating for graphics by 0.1 ... for what that's worth!
3) Install the latest DirectX update from microsoft.com.

After any more reboots that are needed, try again.

Java shouldn't have any effect, I don't have Java installed at all and I can access the Fish Tank just fine. Even though it's got a confusingly similar name Javascript is different, and doesn't need Java.

cheers

:(

Java is completely different to Javascript, they have nothing to do with each other, it is just an unfortunate naming similarity.

Each browser has its own javascript engine designed by the browser maker.

Java on the other hand is a program made by Sun (now owned by Oracle), and all browsers use the same program on your harddrive, with the use of plugins, the same way flash and PDFs work.

basically javascript relies on the browser, java relies on an external program from the browser, the only similarity is the name.

Sorry to hear that . . . the only other thing I can think of is to see if the problem happens if you run without addons .

Start / Accessories / System Tools / Internet Explorer (no add-ons)

If it works without add-ons it could be an add-on that's causing the problem . Otherwise someone else may have an idea of what to do .

cheers

1186254 2011-03-17 08:35:00 One thing that comes to mind re the comment:
The fish tank I just get a white screen I had a job the other day, the persons youtube videos, or any video in full screen did the same thing - all white, but audio was fine.

Disabled hardware acceleration and that fixed it, perfectly.

You can give it a try, and if it doesn't make it any better, put it back. Depending on the Graphic Settings, you may or may not be able to change it as given below, your Graphic settings should have the option someplace though.

Heres how: Instructions (answers.yahoo.com)

Edited: Just looked on my Nvidia, open the Nvidia control panel, click on help, and search for Hardware - it will bring up how to alter it.

1186255 2011-03-17 09:39:00 Don't seem to have it on my computer. Tried both of your instructions and can't find it. Went to MS and still can't find it following there instructions. Going to bed will look tomorrow.
