1187793 2011-03-20 17:30:00 Hi guys,

I have a 40" Sharp Full HD LCD TV with a built-in Freeview HD decoder. Looks and sounds great but I have a question...

Why does the picture from the analogue signal (terrestrial UHF) appear to be brighter than the picture received via the digital signal (terrestrial UHF).

When I am on the Analogue TV setting the picture is much brighter but if I switch to the Digital TV setting the picture appears a lot less brighter but clearer and sharper. Mrs Chief believes because of this that the analogue picture is better than the digital one?

I have tried adjusting the brightness, colour and contrast settings for the digital setting but this makes no difference?

Should it be this way? Any thoughts...

Thanks,

1187794 2011-03-20 21:54:00 It's not like that on my sony TV, the digital picture is so much better than the analogue I could never go back.

I actually got up on the roof and removed the VHF aerial so the only analog TV I can now receive is prime because it's UHF.

Not helpful really but maybe have a read through the book? my sony has a button that selects various preset modes such as theatre, sports etc - some of these are very bright indeed.

1187795 2011-03-20 23:08:00 Same here. The tuner in this is definitely better than the normal TV. Altho it probably doesnt help that the outside aerial doesnt have any prongs / whatever you call on it lol. Just the aerial bit screwed to the side of the flat

But when I can be bothered buying / installing Win7, I'll probably stream it thru the Xbox, so I can connect it to the TV. To save me buying a decoder

1187796 2011-03-22 08:09:00 Problem solved... I just changed the AV mode from stadard to Dynamic fixed and the picture became bright but the clarity and sharpness was preserved.

It's like a preset mode for the type of media you're watching, I have options for gaming, movies etc.

Thanks for the replies.

Cheers,

I've found that has a MASSIVE impact on how a high def image looks, not sure if it can apply to non hdmi inputs though, even if content is high def.

1187798 2011-03-22 20:01:00 I have had my 40" Sony Bravia LCD TV for 3 years (pre Freeview Tuner model) and have not as yet figured out all the functions on it.
