1187598 2011-03-19 19:09:00 First of all, I'm not doing anything illegal (I think).

My friend gave me some music she had recorded, but when she ripped it to her laptop she added DRM to the ripped files. When I tried to play it on my netbook (as an audio cue for a music video) the songs wouldn't play. So how do I go about removing DRM? I'd try burning the songs to CD but I can't find my erasable CD :p

(Mods: feel free to lock this thread if you don't agree with this)

1187599 2011-03-19 19:18:00 Your friend ripped it and gave it to you.
So it's actually receiving stolen property.

And I don't think you can, she'd have to rip it again without the DRM.

I'm pretty sure it plays on her computer, she didn't say she wasn't able to.

pctek, that may be true (hence the last line), but I do have verbal permission for the music.

(To clarify, when I say recorded, I mean the artist was herself; i.e. she was singing.)

1187602 2011-03-19 20:01:00 I would still take it back to her and confirm it plays gary67 (56)

1187604 2011-03-19 21:30:00 Wondershare video converter ultimate has a remove DRM option in it.

It will also convert any video format to something else

1187605 2011-03-19 22:22:00 The "problem" with all those convertors, is a license for the music / Video is required to unlock and convert first. Just tried several including Wondershare - No go. Example (i51.tinypic.com)

DVD's for example have it embedded in the DVD, so it will play on normal players.
The same goes for a Music CD. If you try any convertor, it usually asks for the licence if it cant find it.

When Itunes were doing the DRM, the licence came through with the music you downloaded.

They will play on Her computer because thats where the licence is.

Best bet is to get her to re rip, and this time dont protect it.
