1149137 2010-10-31 18:52:00 Impossible. I have learned focusing on one thing while ignoring everything else will never work to achieve a solution.

And why is everybody Speedy now?? :waughh:

Meh, I doubt the solution for "everything else" is to be found in a 4 minute speech.

:devil

And who is Speedy?

1149138 2010-11-01 02:19:00 I suppose one could argue it seems ok to have a Maori party, yet there would be an uproar if there was a 'white' party.
Also distiguishing 'white' and 'pakeha' would be something needing addressing, pakeha simply means 'non-maori', kind of weird, we call people from Japan Japanese, people from America American, yet in NZ we adopt Pakeha thinking it's PC or something.
Imagine if non Maori call Maoris non-whites... all about context.
(No Im not picking an arguement or trolling, just showing how things are easily put out of context).
Just an example of the top of my head.

1149140 2010-11-01 03:14:00 @darkstar09: From some of the comments you have posted in this thread, it appears there may be a touch of racial prejudice evident in your attitude. If you allow this to come through in your speech, you may find your grade for the assignment to be somewhat lower than you might otherwise have expected.

Racial prejudice, however you justify it to yourself, is frowned upon by much of society.

You will need to take an objective unemotional standpoint to make your arguments stand by themselves... Otherwise you will just sound like a Hone Harawira or a Paul Henry...

1149141 2010-11-01 08:12:00 Firstly as Terry said way back, discrimination is simply choosing one thing over another. For example when I was growing up in a protestant area, catholics were ignored, and bullied at school level. Evil stuff thankfully gone. You need to specify racial discrimination as your topic.

Secondly you can only cover a fraction of it so stick to defining your topic, give examples, and perhaps a view as to whether it is increasing or fading in society.

1149142 2010-11-01 09:16:00 Nah, I'm sure DoC knows what they're doing. It's not like they'll be collecting ALL the shellfish they can find, and there are size restrictions. Can't compare shellfish and moa, their reproduction rates are way different, and if moa were still alive today they will certainly be a fiercely protected species.
One big difference is the number it takes to fill a pot (or stomach).
