1188236 2011-03-22 00:16:00 Hi there,

I am maybe looking at getting two screens betweem 22-24 inch. I was wondering what people recommended at about the $350 or less price mark.

I use it for gaming (counterstrike source, WoW, HoN, Blackops), watching movies (standard definition), and general uni work and web browsing.

System comprises of:
i5 750
gigabyte p55-ub3
crucial 4g ram ddr3 1333
xfx ati 5770 1gb
1tb seagate gdd
cooler master 690 case
coolermaster silent pro m700 psu

You are likely to get motion blur with the cheaper ones . The best thing to maybe check them n store .

1188238 2011-03-22 00:55:00 23" is a popular size, go for an lcd with low response time (2ms) and ensure it has the right connector for your graphics card. If your card easily handles 1080p settings, go for a full hd monitor. Have a look on ascent.co.nz

1188239 2011-03-22 01:01:00 If you're gaming on both screens an you're not upgrading your gfx card, you wont need full hd, as your card probably wont take it too well

1188240 2011-03-22 01:15:00 It's largely a matter of preference, I have used AOC monitors for some time as they are cheap and reliable (in my experience at least) and personally see no motion issues at 5ms .

A glossy shiny screen tends to look nicer in the shop but can be prone to reflections if you use it near a window or in a brightly lit room and will show up fingerprints badly . A mat non reflective screen on the other hand can look less appealing but is less affected by reflections and fingerprints .

I would recommend simply looking at them in the shop and choosing one you like, there is no huge difference at the cheaper end of the market . As pointed out above a lower resolution may be less taxing on your graphics cards in gaming, if this is a concern perhaps a 1366 x 768 (720P) monitor would suit you .

I have a 1080P AOC 27" monitor I play WOW on and I love it - cost me $460 at pbtech

1188241 2011-03-22 03:42:00 I currently have a full hd 21.5 inch dell and a 19 inch dell. I only game on one screen at a time currently. HamieSam (15245)
1188242 2011-03-22 05:03:00 Nice system, pity you only have a low end graphics card!.....I would go for 22"LCD @ 1680x1050, otherwise the resolution will bring your card to its knees! SolMiester (139)
1188243 2011-03-22 05:43:00 Have you thought about upgrading your gfx card? If so, pick up a copy of this months pcworld mag, it's got an awesome article that will help you decide on one that will better handle full hd or dual screen gaming

1188244 2011-03-22 05:50:00 would putting in another card like mine help alot? ie dual 5770s HamieSam (15245)
1188245 2011-03-22 06:11:00 I would strongly suggest only pick brands that offer zero pixel warranty. Beyond that LG, Viewsonic,Sony, even Samsung all good brands.

1080P is a little marginal with a 5770, but you can run medium detail in most games. I personally wouldn't SLI 5770's, I would hock off the 5770 on Trademe and buy a ATI 6950 or maybe a GTX560 if price sensitive.
