1188184 2011-03-21 23:22:00 Does anyone know how to disable the card reader in a Compaq Presario CQ62?

It thinks its a drive and will not let you format the disk until its disabled.

1188185 2011-03-21 23:26:00 If it came as part of the system it might be in the BIOS.Its a removable device so you can use it for formatting memory cards Speedy Gonzales (78)
1188186 2011-03-21 23:39:00 Its not where the manual said it would be so I dunno.

A copy of puppy linux with dban that ignores the reader would also work for this but so far all the ones I have tried error out because of it.

1188187 2011-03-21 23:53:00 You may have to unplug it from the USB header inside the case

Then plug it back in after. So, youre trying to completely wipe the hdd?

1188188 2011-03-22 00:01:00 Yes, its not booting up so need to format it to get it working.

Its a laptop, not sure about opening it up to find the USB header.

1188189 2011-03-22 00:28:00 Oh probably not a good idea opening it then :p Remove the hdd then chuck it in something / a desktop then use dban or something. And unplug whatever hdds (that are in the case). In case you format the wrong hdd Speedy Gonzales (78)
