1150255 2010-11-04 04:59:00 It seems they've had more than their fair share of incidents over the last few years...

1150256 2010-11-04 05:07:00 It'll be fine, it's just a fuse. jareemon (5207)
1150257 2010-11-04 05:18:00 Maybe, but more importantly if it is just a fuse, why did the fuse blow? pine-o-cleen (2955)
1150258 2010-11-04 05:53:00 cos the fuse was large. get it? fuselage? hah hah hah ... jareemon (5207)

1150260 2010-11-04 06:16:00 The explosion rained debris on a downtown area of Batam. Pictures on local television showed the Qantas logo on some of the debris.

The debris fell in the suburb of Dutamas, Mr Reay said.

A Qantas spokeswoman said there was "no suggestion it's come from our aircraft".
Seriously, what's with the denial happening here?

1150261 2010-11-04 06:29:00 Dont blame QANTAS, the engine was an englander made Rolls Royce engine which spat a turbine blade. prefect (6291)
1150262 2010-11-04 07:04:00 With those compressor fans spinning in excess of 10,000 RPM its pretty likely (certain even) that the slightest metal fatigue can cause the fan to tear itself apart and destroy the whole turbine assembly.

Whack a RAM jet or FWE Pulse jet on 'em, no moving parts, no spool time, not a lot that can go wrong.

This is exactly the reason I want to fly! ultimate kicks!

1150263 2010-11-04 07:13:00 A turbine blade can break on any jet engine whether R&R or a P&W one or any other make for that matter, which dose happen from time to time.

1150264 2010-11-04 07:32:00 That would've been awesome to be on the airbus at the time, I'll bet a few passengers got photos of the smoking engine mid-flight... I'm sure we'll see some in the next couple days. jareemon (5207)
