| 1149729 | 2010-11-02 05:24:00 | There's only a couple of things that I can work up any sort of passion for these days (well, three if you count SWIMBO!) and this is kind of to do with one of them. The moderators were kind to this thread (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz), which produced a lot of debate, so I'm hoping they'll let this one run 'til the weekend. If you're in Auckland (www.wwawd.org), Wellington (www.wwawd.org) or Christchurch (www.wwawd.org) the events in these links could use your support. For a bit more detail about each of them have a look here. (surf.co.nz) I'd be interested to know how much coverage there's actually been in those conurbations (www.google.co.nz) (eg – if you're there have you seen or heard anything about it?). My particular tenuous “connection” with all this is the humpbacks in Tonga, mentioned in the 6th (short) paragraph in this link (pacific.scoop.co.nz). | 1149738 | 2010-11-07 07:36:00 | When you think about what Guy Fawkes day was about - a plot to blow up Parliament, then it's kinda like the Yanks celebrating 911... or the foiling of a 911 plot if you want a closer analogy. It would be very unPC to burn an effigy of a muslim to celebrate this day, yet we burn "Guys" without any concern, and frankly, no-one would be surprised to see muslims doing the equivalent of burning an effigy of something the honky euro races relate to. Where's the perspective? Burn a koran - big protests, burn a Guy - big party. |
