1149539 2010-11-01 21:19:00 MANDATORY (for all the above options): Finish what Guy Fawkes failed to do

Fireworks can be a lot of fun if used sensibly (and sometimes when not used sensibly!)

However they can also do a lot of harm: frightening pets and animals, burning property and flora, and capable of serious personal injury (or death) – to the user, the audience or someone completely uninvolved.

In addition, although they aren’t legal to set off after November 5 (AFAIK), they continue to scare the family pets until well into the New Year.

Plus they can be a huge, albeit optional, cost to families who might not be able to really afford them

So I am interested to find out what others think on this subject.

I prefer small gatherings rather than huge crowds at public displays.

See the relevant legislation here (www.legislation.govt.nz). Erayd (23)
1149543 2010-11-01 21:33:00 I wonder how much things have changed in 5 years? :D Chilling_Silence (9)
1149544 2010-11-01 21:34:00 Even in England, the name, if anything represents standing round a bonfire with fireworks and potatoes in silver paper and parkin,no forgetting the fireworks.

1149546 2010-11-01 21:44:00 I love fireworks and I'm not a stupid idiot who would shoot them at my cat or other people etc.

Anyone who does do that sort of thing should have to work in the burns ward of a hospital for a month. Then we'll see how funny they think it is.

1149547 2010-11-01 21:45:00 Also it's true to say that stopping selling fireworks as in a ban may lead to bigger problems such as people making their own bigger, better and more improved models. Snorkbox (15764)
