1188246 2011-03-22 06:29:00 Sli is nvidea, if you were to put another 5770 in you'd be using crossfire.
I do agree that it may be best to get rid of your card and get a gtx460 or gtx560 Ti, these are incredible value and you can still run sli later if you get another one. The gtx560 Ti outperforms the 6950, and is a good $60-70 cheaper. In saying that, if you find another cheap 5770, then it will nearly double your gfx power on the cheap.

The only problem I would see is that maybe my motherboard isnt best suited for xfire.

But that article shows that xfire 5770's is besting gtx470's which would best a 460 right?

1188248 2011-03-22 07:39:00 Sli is betterer than xfire.
You have a pretty good system there, which is why I think it would be a good idea to get a newer card to allow for a future additional card, especially if you plan on dual screen gaming. If you can afford it, get a new card and upgrade later. My philosophy is do it right the 1st time, do you really want to buy another 5770 only to get rid of both of them down the track to upgrade?

1188249 2011-03-22 08:17:00 Xfire 5770s would be great, no question, but it's important to keep in mind that with 2 screens + xfire, you wont get any performance gains over 1 screen + 1 card. The choice is yours, but you can either spend $230 on another 5770, or flog it on trademe for maybe $150 and put that toward the $360 gtx460 o.c, meaning you'll only be paying $210 for the 460 o.c, making it cheaper, more advanced (with its 336 nvidea shaders and 256bit bus) and alowing you to get another one later to make a KILLER gaming system.

Woooo there bud, as much as I prefer Nvidia cards, I have to correct you on the better multi GPU platform and right now, thats Crossfire. Its scaling is quite a bit better....

1188251 2011-03-22 21:32:00 Oh i thought my card would barely be worth $50 already after about a years use.

If I could actually get that much for it I would upgrade but I don't have the budget otherwise.

1188252 2011-03-22 21:35:00 Back to screens, is there any specific model of say 23 inch that anyone prefers? HD is a given for future proofing. HamieSam (15245)
1188253 2011-03-22 21:59:00 Aoc have some good value screens, just have a look on ascent and filter your size and definition requirements. Check trademe to see what used 5770s are going for

As far as i've heard, sli has better compatability and less problems... Thanks for that though, looks like I need to brush up on that a little :p
