1461652 2019-06-19 01:49:00 When I was a kid, back when dinosaurs walked the earth, I seem to remember that hot taps and cold taps had different types of washer. Is that still the case, or has tap design/washer technology changed so these days it doesn't matter what you stick in there? Tony (4941)

Yes, I know and they are much better, but for reasons I won't bore you with, in this instance I'm stuck with conventional washers.

1461655 2019-06-19 04:40:00 With actual taps, not mixers, you can use the same washer in both....not a different size or anything.

And, apparently I am now a plumbing apprentice.
So says husband.

I asked him to change the shower mixer yesterday.
Long story, short, I had to help.....in more than a pass tools capacity

Er...not that I wanted to be actually.

Er...not that I wanted to be actually.I'm talking about a bathroom basin with a single spout but two different tap heads that are separate units.

Thanks, I thought that was the case. The reason I asked is that in the hardware store you will see a bag of washers and there are usually two different colours, and I wondered if that was significant.

Ken

His health isn't the best. His eyesight isn't either.
So I could see the hole the grub screw went in better, so I got that job.

Also getting the nuts done on the mixer, in it's hole in the wall, it was an awkward bugger...he was getting er....strained I guess you'd say, so I had a go.
PLus I have smaller hands.

So both of us in the end.

He said "how did you manage to get it"? LOL.....and "you're learning"

It's better than car repairs I guess, but I still prefer PC hardware.
