2019-06-17 05:24:00 | The plastic feet/glides on our patio chairs have warn out, leaving the metal tubing to scrape on the concrete. Unfortunatelly SWMBO has just replaced all the scrabs too so they are going to have to last a bit bit longer. I have been unable to find any replacement inserts to fit. So Have decided to fill the ends of the leg tubes with epoxy. Have seen it done on youtube with wooden legs, so are hopping it may work with ours too. www.youtube.com Would work out pretty expensive getting the epoxy setup he was using, so, was wondering what type or quantity I should be looking for. Ive asked at our local M10 but they are not too keen to advise. Do we have any experts in this department.

First I would go to M10 to see what sizes of rubber caps they stock, the inside diameter. then I would cut wood to fit the inside of the chair leg. Then round the corners enough to fit into the caps. Tap the square wood into the leg & fix it in place with PK self tapping screws. Finally push tight caps onto the round section. PJ |

2019-06-17 22:50:00 | Thanks guys, I have already considered these ideas. Regarding shaping wood to fit inside. I was looking at cutting up a Teflon cutting board into strips to fit inside the legs. Tapping them in & securing with small screws or rivets. But when I cleared out the old feet to take the inside measurements I found there was centre partition, which in effect splits them into two rectangles of 12mm x 17mm Also two of the six chairs are slightly different again. Then there are two foot stools which have an oval profile. So, my conclusion was, the epoxy resin was going to be the easiest, tidiest & most practical method. It's not cheap stuff, so I want to get the most suitable product.

2019-06-18 00:37:00 | SWMBO bought the whole suite used. Only ID I can find is a sticker under the table saying Made in China. I've emailed the NZ supplier of West System (thats what the guy used in the video) & asked if they would consider that product suitable for the job.

2019-06-18 03:31:00 | I have the same problem with a chair at the beach. I am considering filling the legs to about 20mm with silicone the leaving proud at the end, and shaped as the foot. I don't know if it will be successful but will be worth a try. | Richard (739) | |
