1461086 2019-05-31 07:03:00 In the past few weeks we have got fibre, but got to say, we don't notice the difference. We did have very good wireless, about 30+ Mgs a second, 3.2- 3.7 Mgs a second upload (not as great!).

We have fibre now, just done a speedtest and get 52.09 download and 10.17 upload, so seemingly great, but actually seems slower downloading to me. How can this be? Love the upload speed as am looking to store my photo images online (if ever I can find the right site).

Am I confused?? Over time this can be quite possible, however this is a brief space of time.

1461087 2019-05-31 09:23:00 I am on VDSL with a box just across the road. I get 65 down, 26 up. As fibre has just been laid in our street, I have applied for an install. They scoped the job last Friday and will do it soon.

They say I won't notice any difference but the install is free so may as well rip into it. With my luck, if I waited, the day I decided to go to fibre I would be told that the free installation had ended the previous week.

I have opted for the "Unplan" option and will be on unlimited with a minimum of $69 to a maximum of $99. (landline include) $10 less than I am paying now.

1461088 2019-05-31 09:32:00 For a lot of things you will not notice much difference if those speeds you are reporting are accurate. I get 100 down and 20 up on my fibre plan and that is the basic plan I am on. I get a good enough service to not see any point in paying for greater speed. CliveM (6007)
1461089 2019-05-31 19:09:00 It depends what fibre plan you have chosen.
Imho , the basic fibre plans are not much faster than DSL.
But at least you have future proofed your home

1461090 2019-05-31 19:50:00 Another advantage of Fibre is that unlke copper it cannot end up cooking your equiptment in the event of a lightening strike somewhere out on the grid. CliveM (6007)

52? Did you get the slowest speed plan? I'd bump it up to at least 100mbps.....

Also if your devices are connected via wifi instead of cable, that can make a difference.
My brother gets the slowest speed off his old HP laptop. Desktop and phone both give him better results, and his ipad too.

Desktop is best, which is the only one he has cable connected.

And of course traffic can still affect it. But if you are on the slow plan, change it.

When they sell a person Fibre, they usually dont offer different plans, its often just the basic / entry level. People are under the impression that having fibre means they will get a huge speed increase - :groan: But find out they dont, sure they can, but you want higher speed, you need to pay more for it.

When they come around here trying to peddle Fibre they always go away :( They cant match the performance I get with Fibre X Max at anywhere near the same or better price.

Who is they?
Most ISPs ask you which plan you want.

1461095 2019-06-01 21:25:00 I Am Curious. ADSL or VDSL(?) versus Fibre. I see on the Forum various figures of up/down speed comparisons. But in real time wou;d we notice a difference on the screen? For instance, Take a large paragraph of text sent over Copper or Fiber would we notice the Send speed? in what, Milleseconds, blink of an eye. Another for instance, to send that text over copper & fiber from Wanganui to say London would we see any difference The fibre speed is claimed to save us, buisnes, the country millions of dollars & is vital for our economy!! How?
OR have I got the wrong ideas about all the above. Thanks PJ
