1460628 2019-05-12 05:02:00 Fitting another TV in my camper need to shorten the audio and video cables. Happy with fitting RCA plugs on co axial like CAT 6 but the leads I have are not co axial they are the standard red white and yellow ones you seem to get with the tv. A lot thinner can you buy a plug and crimper for this thin wires? prefect (6291)
1460629 2019-05-12 05:18:00 Cat6 Cable is not meant for RCA plugs, you would be better off getting the correct cable. Cat6 is networking cable with 8 separate wires designed for RJ45 style Plugs. wainuitech (129)
1460630 2019-05-12 05:35:00 cat 6 is not coaxial cable.
there is no crimp plugs for the thin cable used as its not a standard cable as such. however you can get solder type plugs easy enough.

1460634 2019-05-12 21:51:00 The el cheapo RCA leads arnt the easiest to chop & se-solder. The wire is very very thin (to save money), the internal insulation melts when you solder
There will be a centre wire & a mesh around that. The mesh is the earth connector, and the shielding.

Better way is to buy the correct length cable , they are dirt cheap on trademe.

1460635 2019-05-13 06:54:00 Thanks Wainui, Gary and 1101, the problem is I have no way to hide the excess. What I will do is change the el cheapo RCA leads to co ax and buy a crimper and wire stripper from ali express. Thanks again for help. prefect (6291)
1460636 2019-05-13 10:17:00 to save mucking around with crimper, what you can do is use tv aerial coax, use twist on F connectors and F to RCA adapters.
tho soldering is a lot cheaper.

1460637 2019-05-13 22:12:00 If its the standard AV red, white yellow, and distances are short, you could probhably get away with twisted wire pairs (unshielded). Thats easy to solder onto RCA plugs
Or cut the existing wires in the middle, shorten them & solder them back together

Just how long/short do they need to be ? Look on trademe for cable, Im sure you'll find something close enough.
