2019-02-18 01:44:00 | I believe that I was having a problem with MongoDB . I went and used Terminal to remove it and then to reinstall it . I got rid of all the RED Xs (again) but the last lines here bother me after I re-installed it and then asked it to START and I got a "unrecognized service" on it . . . . . joseph@SurfersMintu1 ~ $ sudo service mongod start [sudo] password for joseph: mongod: unrecognized service joseph@SurfersMintu1 ~ $ mongod The program 'mongod' is currently not installed . | 1458383 | 2019-02-18 05:45:00 | @ Rod: OK - I did that and I guess Mongodb fired up OK . . . . I ran "Top" and got a lot of stuff that was interesting and all, but wouldn't stand still to see if mongodb was running or not . But now - I got the RED X back again . I think there's something wrong with mongodb, since I've been 'playing' with it, things are good then bad then good again . . Coincidence? I think not . Wish I knew for a fact what 'mongodb' does . I'm going to Google that right now . Thanks so far . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

2019-02-18 06:06:00 | All Right!!!!! Google may be your friend, but it sure can confuse me . . . . . . . . . . . . . Here's what Google got me: ################################################## ############################################## Introduction to MongoDB On this page Document Database Key Features MongoDB is an open-source document database that provides high performance, high availability, and automatic scaling . Document Database A record in MongoDB is a document, which is a data structure composed of field and value pairs . MongoDB documents are similar to JSON objects . The values of fields may include other documents, arrays, and arrays of documents . A MongoDB document . The advantages of using documents are: Documents (i . e . objects) correspond to native data types in many programming languages . Embedded documents and arrays reduce need for expensive joins . Dynamic schema supports fluent polymorphism . Key Features High Performance MongoDB provides high performance data persistence . In particular, Support for embedded data models reduces I/O activity on database system . Indexes support faster queries and can include keys from embedded documents and arrays . Rich Query Language MongoDB supports a rich query language to support read and write operations (CRUD) as well as: Data Aggregation Text Search and Geospatial Queries . High Availability MongoDBs replication facility, called replica set, provides: automatic failover and data redundancy . A replica set is a group of MongoDB servers that maintain the same data set, providing redundancy and increasing data availability . Horizontal Scalability MongoDB provides horizontal scalability as part of its core functionality: Sharding distributes data across a cluster of machines . Starting in 3 . 4, MongoDB supports creating zones of data based on the shard key . In a balanced cluster, MongoDB directs reads and writes covered by a zone only to those shards inside the zone . See the Zones manual page for more information . Support for Multiple Storage Engines MongoDB supports multiple storage engines: WiredTiger Storage Engine (including support for Encryption at Rest) In-Memory Storage Engine MMAPv1 Storage Engine (Deprecated in MongoDB 4 . 0) In addition, MongoDB provides pluggable storage engine API that allows third parties to develop storage engines for MongoDB Wow! I never knew that I had scalable geospatial redundancies that are also pluggable with those pesky horizontal fallovers . What shards are these zones of residence? Got an English translation of that for me?

2019-02-18 07:08:00 | Beats me what that is all about. I've never used mongodb myself, never even heard of it. What do you need it for? | Rod J (451) | |
2019-02-18 07:16:00 | On the subject of "Top". I would install htop which is better than the bog standard top. Htop gives you colour output and you can press F3 to search for a program you want to monitor. It will then highlight the program in question at the top of the heap. Of course, you could always do a Ctrl-Esc to get the gui equivalent of top which is far easier to use and it doesn't need a terminal to run in.

2019-02-18 21:46:00 | Beats me what that is all about. MongoDB Atlas Deploy a fully managed cloud database in minutes The best MongoDB experience. Access data directly from your frontend code, intelligently distribute data for global apps, trigger serverless functions in response to data changes, and much more. Some people just like to install all sorts of things. My brother used to be like that, interestingly he used to have a lot of issues with this PC too. Now he doesn't. (Either)

2019-02-19 06:24:00 | So - it's a dependency? Cr@p! I have no idea what I got that requires MongoDB. I think the ONLY extra I put in is Pithos.
