| 1458110 | 2019-02-09 19:58:00 | A lot depends on what you do with the PC and what your reason for upgrading is. For general computing and games you may not even notice a difference. If you load up your CPU a lot or like to multitask then the two extra cores might make an improvement. We can't really advise you on what CPU to get unless you tell us what you want from it and what you intend to use it for. I built myself a new PC last year for my 50th because I wanted to and I like to stay ahead of games requirements and not have to worry about it. That said the difference between my shiny new Ryzen 7 2700X and my 3 year old i7 6700K is not something I'm able to notice outside of benchmarks despite doubling the cores. That may change in future. |

My first computer was the 486 and 30 years ago you just about had to build a new computer every year to keep up, but things have slow down a lot since then so I figure I'm suppose to build another one now. | 1458112 | 2019-02-13 21:41:00 | The Ryzen 5 2600 and the i5 4690 use different Socket types so you will need a motherboard for each of them or whatever CPU you choose to use. AMD uses the AM4 socket and the i5 uses the FCLGA1150 socket...when you said this "If I do a step up from the AMD Ryzen 5 2600 the price goes up $100." do you mean you already have the AMD Ryzen 5 2600 system running? Confused me because before you said "But I have a i5 4690 which is 41/2 years old" What are you running at the moment, the Ryzen 2600 or the i5 4690?......edit: I didn't see all the previous replies until I posted mine. |
