1457708 2019-01-27 22:37:00 Hi there, I am about to start a course in web development and need to upgarde my laptop. Can anyone recommed a laptop that would be good for coding, nice and fast but not too expensive? Also are there any places you would recommend that sell laptops at a good price? I'm going to be a poor student soon so looking to spend around $1k or less if I can :) DakotaNZ (17161)

make sure whatever you buy as a SSD , and not a stupidly tiny capacity

ex lease is another option

Use a retailer with decent after sales service.

1457713 2019-01-28 22:51:00 You won't really get much new for 1k . I would say for web development work you want minimum i5, 8GB RAM, SSD (250GB for a start) and a decent res panel - not going to happen for 1k if you want new .

I would look ex-lease . Dell Latitude, HP Probook/Elitebook would be two of the more common ones .

A HP Elitebook Folio 1040 G2 or G3 could be a good option - nice and light . No Ethernet port though, you can get a dongle if needs be .

To give you an idea, I can get several of these ex lease at the moment for around $900 incl - that's a Folio 1040 G2, i7-5600U, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Win10 Pro, and pretty sure they have either a 1600x900 or 1080p panel in them, but I would need to double check on that if you were actually interested in one .

Probook 450 G3 could be a good option too, or a Dell Latitude E7440 or similar, like this . . trademe . co . nz/computers/laptops/laptops/dell/listing-1922788451 . htm?rsqid=3094c35879b94088a867cd46f0acf" target="_blank">www . trademe . co . nz fa8

That particular one is pretty good value @ $749 as it has the 1080p panel .
