1461170 2019-06-04 23:38:00 Some inkjet printers waste an insane amount of ink on cleaning cycles , so if not used that often most of the ink literally gets wasted . :badpc:
Canon's are really bad for this, thats why I threw a 2 year old Canon in the bin (and bought an Epson).

If buying an inkjet, check for % of ink wasted in cleaning cycles, Consumer NZ tested this a while back.

1461171 2019-06-05 04:05:00 And last night Hilary Barry got peeved off with the price of genuine HP ink for her $38 !!! HP printer. Her answer though was to go to Cartridge World.

Well, I have tried that and now cannot escape the "Incompatible Cartridge" message.

Happy so far with my big mutha ink tanks - will never buy HP again.

1461172 2019-06-05 04:22:00 It's not ink vs toner.
It's how many pages you get from them.

Yeah but what I was saying was the ink just evaporates or dries up or something so I only get a dozen or so pages out of them over a couple of years because I don't print much.
With a laser that doesn't happen, toner doesn't seem to have an issue sitting around for years. Mine is several years old, has yet to get through the half ream of paper I loaded it with when new, and is still on the original toner cartridge.

So for me the laser has proven to be massively cheaper per page, not because of however many pages the toner or ink cartridge can do if you print every day but because the toner has a much longer shelf life.

Edit:, just actually read Wainui's post as I was still writing this and see he already made this point :)

1461173 2019-06-05 08:20:00 Toner for our Brother 3150cdn costs $43 with next day free shipping from ComputerFood for a high yeild generic one. Been using them for years first for canon ink and then with toner. So far no problems in probably 8 years. gary67 (56)

Fair enough.
But I'd still check how many pages per toner you get and cost of it, before choosing a laser.
People tend to just buy the cheap printer without doing this.
