1457978 2019-02-05 21:31:00 We are with Spark and can only get ADSL2. The modem supplied by Spark is a Huawei HG531s V1.

Is there better performing modem we could get? If we were to change the modem, would it compromise existing additional WIFI setups elsewhere in the house?

1457979 2019-02-05 21:58:00 No. It won't make any difference.
Speed is mostly dependent on the infrastructure and traffic.

Wifi can be improved - to a point - move the modem nearer.

1457980 2019-02-05 22:02:00 Changing modems /Router wont really help if you are already getting the maximum you can receive. There are other factors as well, the quality of the feed for example. If you are only getting fed (lets say) 20Mbps then you wont get any more with another Device.

Example yesterday at a person place they had Fibre installed last year, but were complaining it was slow and not what they expected, when looking they were on a Slingshot Low end basic budget plan, topping out at around 25Mbps in a speed test, when looking at their plan it was Max of 30Mbps.

As for wireless, yes, they all will need resetting to a new device. This sometimes doesn't apply if you swap a device with the same, but a different brand it will.

Whats the actual Problem requiring a change ?

1457981 2019-02-05 22:10:00 With ADSL2 I'm getting about 8 - 9Mbps download which I understand is about average but If I'm downloading a big file, say a movie using Kodi, it seems to take forever - over two hours. Just wondering, that's all. Bryan (147)
1457982 2019-02-05 22:38:00 It might be worth your while to have a look at Spark's 4G wireless plans. If you can get a good 4G signal at your location it would certainly give you a far better speed than ADSL. CliveM (6007)

think yourself lucky.
My ADSL keeps dropping to about 2Mbs .

Just get fibre , if its available in your area. ADSL is only going to get worse, they arnt going to put much effort into ADSL & copper given its obselete & being phased out
