1189926 2011-03-28 05:41:00 So a shop who I've spoken to have chose some specs for me

ATi 6870 1GB
Intel i5-2500 3.3Ghz LGA 1155 Quad Core
ASUS PSH67-m B3
Kingston 4GB 4x DDR3
500GB Western Digital Harddrve
Asus Dvd-writer 24x
Cooler Master Elite 430 Midi Tower Case 500W, 1 Front Blue LED Fan

This will run most of the games I will be playing however is 500W ok?He said it might be pushing the PC and recommends me to buy a 650W.
I want a good looking case and apparently I heard Raidmax aren't very good. Their metal quality gets rusty over time.

The Coolmaster seems to be a good looking case and comes with 500W but if I want a 650W I will have to buy the 650W alone with a 500w that comes with the coolmaster case.

What do you guys think?

1189927 2011-03-28 05:43:00 look for a case that comes without a PSU if you can gary67 (56)
1189928 2011-03-28 06:21:00 A decent quality 500W, yes.

A 500W cheapo CM PSU that comes bundled with a cheapo case.....questionable.

1189929 2011-03-28 07:13:00 hmm the case costs $177. What's consider not cheap?lol Ninjabear (2948)
1189930 2011-03-28 08:02:00 The PSU will more than likely be the Elite Power 500W which is an OEM , hence not usually found on the manufactures site. This one from ascent (www.ascent.co.nz) Which Coolermaster class as a "Standard ATX PS2(optional)"

Description from Cooler Master:
The reliable, efficient and affordable line of Elite power supplies is ideal for mainstream and basic computing systems. Built with quality components and dual +12V outputs, the Elite series is fit to handle demands of high power requirements. The eco-friendly design allows the Elite series to reach more than 70% efficiency at typical loading and meet Energy Star and Blue Angel requirements.

ok as a guideline, It doesn't take variations of design into account but gives you and Idea.
I have built gaming machines for friends on a tight budget using quality 400-500W psu's, as long as you don't load up on hard drives, fans, case lights etc it can work. Graphics cards draw more all the time though

Raidmax are OK, but not the PSU.
I would almost never buy a case with bundled PSU.

Take whatever case takes your fancy - wouldn't worry about rust unless you plan on rinsing it often....

Get a decent PSU. Go with Corsair or Enermax.
And I would go up a bit, 500w might do but doesn't leave a lot of room for later on..........go 650w.

Not a good move.
Most PSUs that come with a case are pretty crappy. Always choose your own PSU if you can and get a decent quality one.

In this instance, 500W would be the absolute minimum - a 650W would give you a lot more headroom for any additional hard drives and graphics card upgrades.

1189934 2011-03-28 20:37:00 I'd go with an HX650 or TX650 from Corsair - depending if you want modular or not. inphinity (7274)
1189935 2011-03-28 21:00:00 I too would go modular Corsair if I needed another PSU. The Enermax 650 I currently have is still chugging along nicely after 5 years so no hurry yet. :) Snorkbox (15764)
