1189087 2011-03-24 21:44:00 Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I send most important email with a request for "read receipt" option ticked so that I get a response knowing it has been received.

Question - I've sent an important email and haven't had a "receipt" and I'm wanting to check whether I've forgotten to tick the "options" box before sending it or someone has ignored it. I know the email has been received because I got an "out of office automatic reply" but can't find any information via the sent email folder as to whether the "read receipt" was used.

Any help appreciated.

1189089 2011-03-24 21:58:00 It can be ignored so you will not know.

I do remember some person I know using software ( an add on maybe ) that overcame that though.

I'll try and find it for you.

Edit:- Can't find it in Google. I will send an Email to my friend and ask how he does it.

1189090 2011-03-24 22:21:00 To check in Outlook 2010 - open outlook - File - Options - Mail - scroll down till you get to Tracking - all the options are there.

Like many others though - if that message pops up I click no - so its only any good if the person actually clicks yes.

There used to be a program I used, that sent one back automatically - but it only worked some of the time lately, to many AV's blocked it. Cant remeber the name of it now.

That may be the only way you will find out.

That was it

There used to be a free version, that put a message along the bottom of the mail with the words something like - "The sender has automatically been notified this email was opened" - the paid version you could remove the message or put in your own.

Just out of interest - the program worked damn good - I actually won a court case with it.
The person kept on saying they never recieved my emails -- but had to back pedal real fast and admit they were actually bull sh1tting, after I produced copies of the original mails along with the receipt from Message tag saying they had and when they had opened them, along with time and day.

How does it work? Embedded HTML in the footer?
But then how it would work if HTML was disabled in the client?
Not too sure about Email clients inner workings.

I remember you talking it it once Wainui ... couldn't remember what it was called so been relying on "read receipt" and sending emails outside office hours so I get an auto reply saying it's been received ... doesn't mean it's been read though.

Thanks for everyone's help ...

i think it works Via HTML - but not to sure - from their site, it wont work with web based mails Eg:
Web-based email programs such as Hotmail and Yahoo! don't send email using the SMTP protocol that MSGTAG needs to utilize . They use their own special protocol to communicate . You can use a web-based email account to receive your receipts, but MSGTAG cannot send tagged messages from a web-based email service . You can still send tagged messages to Hotmail and Yahoo! email addresses .

I did find over a time though it stopped working on every mail . But that was the older version .

When I brought it, it was for the purpose of tracking mails to some customers that kept on saying they never recieved them .
With Message tag I had proof they did at least recieved them, and someone had clicked on the mail, which activates the response / receipt, even if trying to delete the mail it still sent the moment its selected .

As I said, it helped me win a court case - and easily paid for its self, other wise it would have been my word against the other party saying I had sent mails, and he says he didn't get them .

Wrong answer sunshine :D
