1151741 2010-11-09 21:54:00 First my desktop refused to boot up.

I found my email situation bad - nothing and no computer would allow me to get any. OK now I know it was Telstra Clear at fault not me.

A database file I had worked on for ages has vanished into thin air and I must do the work again. Still puzzled over this one.

My Password Agent folder refused to open and let me get my passwords. PC World Forums came to the rescue here thankfully.

I tried to go into the local shopping centre but suffered a bad angina on the way - probably brought on by the above and had to go home.

Today things are better.
But it was the first problem that gave me most worry - my computer refusing to start. Took me nearly an hour to find the fault - but ten years ago I would have found it in seconds.
Simple really. I had discovered an old 3.5 floppy and looked at it (shows how old my desktop is!). It was a good program about the solar system and well worth keeping - glad I had found it and I copied it onto a CD. You have probably guessed what I did.
Yep - left the floppy in the computer so when I tried booting up the next day the computer looked at the "a" drive first and found a disk there but no instructions about booting up so just sat there. I had forgotten about this possible snag, and I bet lots of you out there have also. Which is why I decided to write this little lot to remind us all that this can and still does happen. Removing the disk cured the problem.

1151743 2010-11-09 22:45:00 Happened to one of my caving buddies, after he completely re installed his OS and it still didn't boot form the hard drive he found the problem Doh! gary67 (56)
1151744 2010-11-09 23:00:00 I've done the same thing too. Completely forgot there was a floppy in there and for some stupid reason jumped to the conclusion that my hard drive had died. Agent_24 (57)
1151745 2010-11-09 23:33:00 I just knew there was a reason why I didn't put a floppy drive in my current PC

Possibly to ensure I didn't have problems like that.

My story and I'm sticking to it. :)

Hmm, I like the look of those - does the exposed USB port seem to hold together OK?

1151749 2010-11-10 03:57:00 What a small USB flash drive you have!

All the better to lose it somewhere!

I've had one similar to that for the last year. 8GB A-Data one. The looks I get from people when I hand it to them are astonishing!
