Nope. I usually keep it in my wallet. $35 for an 8GB one. I don't think mines that exact one but it's about that size. About the thickness of an SD card, the length of one and about half the width.

Haven't had a problem with it.

1151765 2010-11-10 20:03:00 We have users here who leave their usb drives in and they wont boot
they look sheepish once you remove it and reboot LOL

You have got me puzzled here. There are three computers in our house - all have flash drives permanently left in and none of them have any trouble booting up (except when I leave a 3.5 floppy in of course - which started this thread).
Can somebody explain this USB problem in simple language.

That's simple you don't have your PC booting from a USB device first but you do with the floppy.

I am still a bit puzzled. To boot from a flash drive means that some operating system must reside there.
Doesn't seem logical to me - or put it another way - I wouldn't have a clue how to arrange this to happen.
Would like to know - not that I am going to do it - I have enough problems with just redundant 3.5 floppies.

Just to add to the amusement I dug out my floppies from the days when I was a teacher to destroy them - and found a bunch of them were the 5.25inch variety. That's going back a bit.

1151768 2010-11-11 02:50:00 You can boot from a USB drive if you have an O/S on same.

You can boot from a CD if you have an O/S on same.

You can boot from a floppy if you have an O/S on same.

You can boot from a networked drive if you have an O/S on same

To do so they have to be bootable though.

The BIOS has to support booting from the drive and not all do.

You can make bootable USB sticks for laptops that don't have floppies or optical drives for example.

The BIOS has to be set in the order you require.

It is very easy in Linux to make a bootable USB flash drive.

That must be real handy for the 2% of the world that use Linux.
