| 1189124 | 2011-03-24 22:01:00 | Hello everyone, I am new to this forum, but I'm glad I joined because I constantly have questions regarding my PC but I rarely can find the right answer by simply googling. If I happen to do something that is not in keeping with the rules of the forum, please feel free to set me straight. Anyway, my problem is as follows: I was using my laptop a couple of days ago and everything was going about as normally as always when I became hungry. I got up, went and made a sandwich, came back, and to my dismay, my screen had a magnet-put-too-close-to-a-tv blotch of discoloration around the lower left-hand side. The colors are purplish-reddish-bluish with a hint of yellow and orange at times. It looks like oil that has been spilled in a puddle. Now, here is some relevant information: 1. I bicycle everywhere I go and my pc is in my backpack with books and things so that there may be added pressure at times. 2. I recently lost my adapter and power cord, so I borrowed a friends. Perhaps incompatible with my machine? 3. The blotch has moved from different areas. It stays in the same place while in use, but upon reboot, there have been times when the spot elongated and spread accross the bottom, and times - like now - that the thing is a condensed ball in the corner (lower-left). 4. I have an Acer 5742z-4601. If there is anything else you need to know, then just ask. Yeah, so if there is anything I can do short of replacing the screen, I'd be really surprised, but my hope is that one of you pc pros out there know a trick to get this thing removed painlessly and pricelessly. Thanks in advance to all who read this. |

Acer - ah well, there you go. Complete ****. |

A backpack can become a very humid environment, so hopefully it's no more than condensation and may disperse/disappear with use. If it's a result of pressure points, then you may be stuck with it. |

Well, thanks a bunch for your reply. I guess I'll go have it checked out by a proffessinal - that is, if I have to. This morning when I booted up the blotch is gone from the lower-left hand side of the screen and moved to almost center-bottom and it is FAR less pronounced. I think it's trying to heal itself! It's incredible. :) @ the guy who thinks acers are crap: I love them, I've never had a problem (besides this one) and they are by far the best buys for the price. Of course I'm not saying that an economical acer could compete with some of the computing monsters out there, but FOR THE MONEY, acer wins every time, hands down. Keep in mind that the above statement is just my opinion and as such it is not intended to make anyone upset. Peace everyone, and thanks again. |
