1151778 2010-11-10 00:37:00 There will be a number here who remember this product. (Those of a certain age
like Cicero and me.)

Knowing that Andrews is no longer available in the shops, and desperately needing some for a feeling of indigestion recently, I feel emboldened to ask this wise forum if anyone knows how to make said product. We must have a chemist or two amongst our vast readership who know the formula.

And Cicero, don't suggest bacon flavoured soda. That would only make things worse! :help:

1151779 2010-11-10 00:43:00 Try a couple of teaspoons in a glass of water of baking soda (bicarbonate of soda) which was one of the ingredients of Andrews and also Hardys which I use to use which you can no longer get. I now use Gaviscon.

A couple of teaspoons is a bit much . I tried that the other day and found it very hard to swallow .

I've since seen that the baking soda packet says to use half to one teaspoon so I would try that and have another dose a couple of hours later if necessary .

1151782 2010-11-10 01:52:00 Eno antacid is still available at supermarkets.

I'm not sure how that composition compares.

1151783 2010-11-10 02:41:00 Enos, Andrews, Bakers - they are all the same.

Just add 1 teaspoon of bircarb of soda to half a glass of water. Sure it tastes horrible, makes you fart, but it still works a treat :)

Otherwise, get Losec from the chemist.

1151784 2010-11-10 03:00:00 Eno antacid is still available at supermarkets .

ENOS is very effective indeed . Drink it while still fizzing (the drink, not your stomach) and it gives near instant relief . If you have acid reflux burning in your oesophagus, let rip with a decent sized burp and it is gone-burger .

Just the thing to soothe away the evidence of a spot of over-indulgence, and comes in a quite tolerable lemon flavour too, if you don't fance the plain stuff .

Buy now in time for Xmas, stocks may be limited . :D

Cheers

1151785 2010-11-10 03:14:00 Drink it while still fizzing

Surely you are getting mixed up with the cure and not the cause ... beer is also very nice whilst still fizzy and cold ... unless of course you come from the mother country where all you can get is flat & warm ... which is more desirable in the fairer sex .... however, I digress ...

Definitely drink your beer ... or Enos if you must ... while cool and fizzy :D

1151786 2010-11-10 03:52:00 Then there's always Grandma's Lye Soap. The oldies may remember the lyrics:

Do you remember Grandma's Lye Soap?
Good for everything, everything in the home
And the secret was in the scrubbin'
It wouldn't suds, it wouldn't foam.

Mrs O'Malley, down in the valley
Suffered from ulcers, I understand
She swallowed a cake, of Grandma's Lye Soap
Now she's got the cleanest ulcers in the land!

Little Herman and Brother Thurman
Had an aversion to washing their ears
Grandma scrubbed them with the Lye Soap
And they haven't heard a word in years.

So sing right out for grandma's Lye Soap
Good for everything in the home
And the secret was in the scrubbin'
It didn't suds it didn't foam.

So sing right out for Grandma's
(Sing it loud and sing it clear)
Good for everything, everything in the place
The pots and kettles, the dirty dishes
And for the hands and for the face.
