1190752 2011-03-31 04:02:00 Is there any software that can turn a computer into a print server and NAS?
I have looked at FreeNAS but it only seems to do NAS stuff. I also want to be able to shut it down remotely.

1190753 2011-03-31 04:26:00 You can shut down FreeNAS remotely. Honestly, give it a whirl, it's *amazing* and does SO much more.

It does things even iTunes can't, like scheduled re-scanning of directories to share through DAAP for your iTunes library!!

It leaves openfiler for dead!

1190757 2011-03-31 21:30:00 Im going to be building a Freenas box, If I ever get the money to get all the parts. nedkelly (9059)
1190758 2011-03-31 21:36:00 Use any old spare second hand box, works well. Atom boards are good for low-cost, low-power, small-size.

We bought a brand new Gigabyte motherboard here at work. Unfortunately the chipset for the LAN, RAID & USB3 was too new for FreeNAS, wasn't supported. I'd stick with something that's not 'bleeding edge' personally ;)

And im a bit poor right now, and need a new mobo too, current one is not gigabit.
