1190760 2011-03-31 03:59:00 Hi all,

If I setup a laptop with dual boot (Win 7 Pro and XP Pro) is it possible to have a shared location for both OS's to see? Would I have to create a seperate partition for this?

Thanks in advance, have not had too much to do with dual-boot setups... :rolleyes:

1190761 2011-03-31 04:12:00 Make a separate partition, it will make it easier in the long run (os re-installs etc). This partition can be referred to by the same drive letter in both OS's for general consistency. jackM (14814)
1190762 2011-03-31 04:16:00 If I were doing this, I'd create a third partition and point (My) Documents, (My) Pictures etc. on both OSs to a folder on that partition. pcuser42 (130)
1190763 2011-03-31 04:24:00 They could co-exist but not be combined, not sure which you're recommending. jackM (14814)
1190764 2011-03-31 04:26:00 To clarify my last post, you couldn't (shouldn't) combine your entire profile directory, but just the likes of (My) Documents etc would be fine. jackM (14814)
1190765 2011-03-31 04:33:00 Or you could just use XP Mode, given that you're using Windows 7 Professional :D pcuser42 (130)
1190766 2011-03-31 05:29:00 I have a WinXP + Win7 dual boot system.

Created three partitions.

C = XP
D = Win7
E = Data shared.

I have MyDocs in both C and D.

C and D Docs I want to keep are shifted to E as and when I feel like it.

1190768 2011-03-31 20:41:00 Or you could just make a folder somewhere on the existing partitions, you can read both drives from either installation.

Alternative browse to the D:\users\fred_Dagg\my documents or whatever directory from one OS and create a shortcut to it - point being they are already accessible if a little akward to find.

I do agree a 3rd partition or drive is the easiest though.
