1190038 2011-03-28 21:05:00 Some here use it, and like it.

Personally I gave it a go a while back, but soon rejected it, simply because you had to have another Hard Drive attached to the PC internally.

It didn't give the option to backup over a LAN, or to a USB drive - which is completely hopeless.

The reason for saying that, is if the backup drive is internal, and the PC gets hit with a power surge, every thing gets fried, OR if it gets stolen, or some natural disaster - wheres the Backup ?? In the PC thats gone-- Fat lot of good that is.

You want to have backups in another location, or on a portable drive, or another computer.

1190039 2011-03-28 21:30:00 I like Casper and have used it for several years. It is very simple, fast and straight forward to use. It gives an easy way to recover from a mistake made with a program or an update which did not work as intended. Having said that the points that Wainuitech makes above are all very valid. I also make a regular backup to an external HD using Active@ which appears to be high on the list of recommended backup programs here. I tend to adopt a belt and braces approach to backups perhaps I am a little on the paranoid side when it comes to protecting my data. CliveM (6007)

My Accounting package with all its data, customers jobs etc, is now also being backed up to a online site - If I lost that - I'd be screwed.

I'm a bit confused I have been reading thru the Casper 6 manual and help files and from what I can understand it appears you can backup to a USB hard drive .
Below I have copied a section from the Casper 6 help files which led me to believe that you can, . . . am I missing something? I admit to not being that tech minded, maybe you could clarify this for me?

I'm using Win7 Home Premium on a desktop
Intel Core i5 750 2 . 66 GH Processor ,
ASUS P7H55-M INTEL H55 I7/I5/I3 DDR3 UATX PCI-E

"Casper works with any hard disk recognized by Windows
including all SATA, eSATA, ATA/IDE, SCSI, USB, and Firewire
drives -- even hardware RAID arrays . If you own a notebook,
Casper makes backing up or upgrading your notebook's hard disk
as easy as plugging in an external eSATA, USB, Firewire, or
PCMCIA notebook drive*** . "

Any comments most appreciated, thanks . . . G
