1190010 2011-03-28 08:51:00 Out of all the firewalls I've tried, I found ZoneAlarm to be the most user-friendly for my needs.

But there are a couple of issues that test my sanity around ZA.

I'm running XP Home SP3 and ZA Security Suite v8.0.298.000.

Example 1: about 6 months ago I uninstalled Avast AV and Avira AV from my system. Did a thorough clean and swept the registry for remnants which I deleted. Tonight several of those AV system files reappeared in ZA's Program Control list of programs. This kind of thing has happened many times over the years of using ZA. I've reinstalled ZA a number of times but these ghost files reappear out of the blue, maybe after a system reboot or simply just randomly.

Example 2: I spent frigging hours trying to find out why Firefox won't play YouTube and other movies. One of my fave sites is Ted.com with its video lectures which does not even open properly in Firefox. Researched it wherever I could. Tonight on impulse I turned off ZA and voila! The Ted site works beautifully.

All along I suspected Firefox when in fact the culprit seems to be ZA!

Has anyone here had similar problems and how did you fix them.

Thanks with gratitude!

1190011 2011-03-28 08:54:00 Youre kidding right?? Wait till its been on your system for a while. And it starts crashing. And wait till you uninstall it, it leaves its crap on your system and registry Speedy Gonzales (78)

Had that happen plenty of times with ZA on customers PC's.
Even ZA's own removal tool doesn't get rid of all of it.

So damn good it corrupts and blocks the internet completely, so no chance of getting any more infections as you cant get on the Net to get them - uninstall Norton, and remove all the corrupted files and alls well.

I've used ZA for years .
Yes it is user friendly .

ZA is very good and finding stuff and blocking (or not) . All you have to do is go into programs in it's menu and manually block or allow them .

Or, if they aren't there any more - remove them . ZA will remember that in future .

Most problems are because it hasn't been configured properly or at all .

There have been bugs in versions of it but on the whole it's pretty good, I've had more problems with other firewalls than ZA .

Just go through the list of programs in it and manually adjust . It's not hard, if you're not sure what something is, it will show a box with what that item is associated with .

Agree. I have never understood why people seem to have problems with it apart from the odd buggy update.

Love both of your signatures.

1190017 2011-03-30 04:49:00 I had big problems with ZA on a virtual network. I changed to Comodo which gave me no trouble.

Some time ago I decided that I was being paranoid and using the Router's built in firewall with Windows firewall was sufficient. I also use Microsoft Security which does a very good job. I have only had one serious virus attack in the past two years.

1190018 2011-03-30 06:59:00 I used ZoneAlarm for a while once but there were several things that I didn't like about it.

That said, if you misconfigure Comodo's Defense+ you can get weird things happening as well, but at least that's because of your own fault, and it's fixable.

Also Comodo has a removal script which actually works.
