For example a Pensioner who uses his car once or twice a week to go down town pays the same as a travelling salesman who racks up a far larger of kilometers per year. How do they possibly justify that? Is the ACC component the same? The diesel ute pays far more ACC because those vehicles are usually work vehicles and on the road more than the average person, thus a higher risk. It's hard to believe that ACC could have overlooked the levies they could be getting from traveling salespeople driving a petrol car. |

Motoring in New Zealand is still cheap no matter what the goverment has thrown at us! When third Party insurance is made compulsory then you will have something to complain about. |

| 1152961 | 2010-11-17 20:19:00 | There aren't that many uninsured cars out there. "Recent figures indicate that around seven percent of privately owned vehicles in New Zealand are uninsured (Ministry of Transport, October 2009)." www.rhema.co.nz The drivers of uninsured cars do seem to do more than their share of damage. |

| 1152962 | 2010-11-17 20:43:00 | They should scrap the rego acc and have a mileage tax like diesels, the more miles you do the more you pay | Gobe1 (6290) | ||

Although the revenue gained from speed traps might more than offset the revenue lost from distance-based charges . . . . |

Which I quickly found out is not a good thing when billing for mileage allowance. I get de ja vue when I hear that suggestion the same one I seem to have heard in another far off land and probably will hear many more times in future years until it happens......then whinge whinge on how much per km we are being charged....comeone Diesel owners do that already complain about RUCs |

Although the revenue gained from speed traps might more than offset the revenue lost from distance-based charges . . . . Couple hundred for a GPS and bingo problem solved :) Although dont give them the idea of using GPS data to track your mileage . . . . oh yea thats already being trailed in other parts of the world and yes great revenue scheme as a sideline . |
