1191015 2011-04-01 03:37:00 File sharing on W7 is not that hard ( mind you I do it enough) so I get used to it.

Tell you what - a "quick" video' using Starter - and I'll show what "nearly " always works. its actually a two stage process - Sol will recognize it - its used more on servers and Domains :D

Stay tuned as they say. May be later tonight.

1191016 2011-04-01 04:08:00 Ok - Heres how to share the folder(s) - Its rough as guts , but shows how to do it. here Tis at youtube (www.youtube.com)

BTW -- thats shown on the starter edition.

If you want to make it protected, at the end, use the other option and password the Share option instead.

Lets say your computer name is Nomad with the password of 123456

ANY computer can access the folder, just enter in Nomad and 123456 as the user name/password when prompted, and it will let you in. The user name and password used is the one on the machine you are trying to access, not the one you are on currently.

1191017 2011-04-01 05:00:00 I haven't seen the video but I manage to get it running, if it falls over I'll report back :D

I disabled password protected sharing.

When it was on before I it said my Desktop PC accessing the Netbook was not right and said blank passwords could be one reason

1191018 2011-04-01 09:49:00 Strange as it is.

I just started up the NB and it could connect to my PC. The PC couldn't connect to the NB saying wrong credentials until I turned off password protected sharing on the NB.

Before all this it was working and other times I couldn't even see the other computers via "Network", if I typed \\computername that didn't work either. Troubleshooter said make sure the device is turned on

1191019 2011-04-01 19:47:00 A related question .

If I go into the sharing properties it may list Nomad and the permission level is "owner" . There is also another called Everyone and the permission level might be "read" .

That's cool but if I delete "Everyone" off the list why can't Nomad access the PC using the laptop elsewhere? Do I need to turn on password protected sharing?
Nomad (952)
1191020 2011-04-01 19:49:00 Everyone doesnt mean when you go elsewhere. It means everyone on the local network (thats its connected to right now). No leave pw protected sharing off Speedy Gonzales (78)

Is Everyone wired LAN only or is it Wifi as well? Cos I tried on the laptop to access my PC via Wifi and it didn't even pop the username dialog box.... (until after I added back Everyone).

1191022 2011-04-01 19:59:00 Dont think it matters, what youre using. It shouldnt bring up the dialog (if pw protected sharing sharing is off). Unless this dialog window is for the wireless key or something? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1191023 2011-04-01 20:03:00 Nah .. it's window's dialog box. Each user needs to log into windows with a password (local machine).

When I deleted Everyone from the list, the folder has a padlock icon next to it. Nomad could't even log in b/c the dialog box never popped up and it just denied me access. Nomad could only use it on the local machine. Once I put back Everyone the padlock dissapeared and then it was asking everyone for their username/passwords.

1191024 2011-04-01 20:15:00 Did you create this folder?? You shouldnt share windows folders Speedy Gonzales (78)
