| 1191005 | 2011-04-01 01:47:00 | Hi, I want to ask if anyone have success with Win7 networking with other computers .... I have issues connecting to a Netbook and when the Netbook wants to connect to others. I have no issues between non-start Win7 thou.... I also did a search on the Internet and found others have same issues with one saying ... 1. All machines are in the same workgroup (already noted above) 2. A matching account name on both the machines is required 3. All accounts must have a non blank password set. |

| 1191006 | 2011-04-01 01:49:00 | I've networked a Windows 7 with a printer with an XP laptop over wireless, and got the XP laptop printing through it, so it's definitely possible. Try How-To Geek www.howtogeek.com |

| 1191007 | 2011-04-01 01:53:00 | I can share files and printer without problems between Win200 and Win7. But I get issues if the computer is a Windows 7 Starter. social.technet.microsoft.com Std Win7 cannot connect to the Starter and the Starter cannot connect to Std Win7. |

| 1191008 | 2011-04-01 01:56:00 | Disable password sharing on win7 . Make sure discovery is on . Configure firewalls if its not windows . - people forget that if theyre using separate firewalls it needs to be configured Make sure workgroups are the same Those are the main things to remember I've never bothered about adding login passwords to any version of windows I've used . So never had to bother with using passwords over a network You dont have to add any account to the one you're trying to network to (well I dont / never have) . All I've done is the above shared a folder, then added everyone to the folder . After I've shared it . Starter maybe different since it doesnt have as many features as the other versions |

Not sure on #3, however 1 & 2 are correct, unless you are using computername\account to access each other! |

All accounts must have a non blank password set. 1. Windows 7 machines doesn't have to be, but works better if they are. 2. No Way - you dont have to have matching account names on each machine, none of our systems here do and they can all talk to one another happy as larry. ( see #3) These range from XP, Windows 7 various versions, WHS, Small Business server 2008, ubuntu. See attachment, none of the 8 showing have any other log in apart from their own (Others are turned off) 3. Nope - as long as they are shared correctly they usually talk fine. Unless you want to protect them, then when you try to access the share, you can manually enter the user name and password if you want. Some systems like a Server require this. But general usage OS's - Nope Note:In case you're interested Workshop is actually the starter edition. This thread just remindered me of a test I have to do for a customer- a program shes got wont work, and I'm seeing if its starter thats causing the problem. |

| 1191013 | 2011-04-01 03:22:00 | 1. I'm seeing if its starter thats causing the problem. That's what I am suspecting after reading other people. One person did say how he used another wifi card and it worked but not the builtin one and that the ethernet ones works too .... I've gone thru it so much now with other W7. I can double check firewalls disabled and the same settings as Speedy says. Before it brought up the computers, when I connect it said wrong password or username. And then sometime later I couldn't even see the computer name ..... (I could see everything else). It's like my own laptop and PC works. But when one of them becomes a NB, I get issues. I did copy something thru last night ... nothing has changed. |
