1191552 2011-04-03 01:00:00 Hello PCWorld forum goers, I could use your help with solving a problem of mine as I've been unable to locate the answer on the internet! :(

My life long buddy is going overseas with the military and to stay in touch together we decided to play some games online together . Just old games like warcraft 3 or starcraft, for fun . Maybe an mmo too .

My question, that I'm having trouble surfing the internet for an answer is: What is, or are, some of the cheapest laptops on the market that come with a dedicated graphics card?

I want to spend as little as possible on a laptop, since this is a luxury item for me . But it is important to have the dedicated card, as I don't want to tone down the graphics or run on too low of settings . I also do NOT want to invest in a PC . I have one and it works great . I am only looking for a laptop .

Does anyone have any advice or links? I've searched amazon and my price range if you have to ask as dirt cheap . I'll pay what I have to, but only that . I'm not looking for a top of the line machine, just one I can play my games sufficiently on .

Thanks for any and all help :)

1191553 2011-04-03 01:07:00 Hello, and welcome to PressF1.

Unfortunately, laptops with dedicated graphics are quite pricey, although you can get used ones on TradeMe quite cheap:

Looked at DSE website, and found these, though may be a bit out of your price range:

No laptop has a dedicated graphics card . They might have a dedicated graphics chip however which is not the same thing .

Why bother buying a laptop? Seems your mate might be the one who needs one - not you . You have a PC so ensuring the graphics card in it is up to standard, why buy a laptop as well?

1191558 2011-04-03 03:48:00 iff you want to play "old" games like warcraft 3 you wont even need a decent gfx chip. my 07 macbook with a 945 GMA (shitty intergrated 64mb chip) runs warcraft 3 on high settings. when i was dual booting i could run v8 supercars 2 on high and the recommended card was a radeon 8xxx or better. Laptop GMA cards werent supported and it still ran fine.

just out of interest why do yu need a laptop? (i can see why your friend does but not you if you knwo what i mean).

I've seen more than one that does have a dedicated sub board/card for graphics.

x2, example is the Dell M90 as I was recently looking at one with a broken GPU .

There was talk a while back about a standardized laptop graphics card interface but I don't think it gained widespread use .

To the original question though . . . If all he wants to play is old games like Warcraft 3 I think just about anything modern will play that, good GPU or not . . .
