2011-04-04 05:43:00 | Thank you all for your comments. I have forwarded a link to this thread onto the lady concerned so that she can see for herself some of the countries most respected techies opinions & hopefully help other senior net users out. Obviously senior net users could learn a great deal by also using this forum. No offense to the techs that posted, but "some of the countries most respected techies opinions". Where did you get that from, if you are trying to convince somebody of something, don't bullshit them.

2011-04-04 06:16:00 | I do not support the use of Microsoft Security Essentials as I firmly believe hackers will always target Microsoft programs before others. Umm if i was trying to hack/get around an AV i would target Norton 'cause I know it sucks the most. MSE would be like 4th on my list.

Yeah that comment is a bit of a laugh really :) Its not very common that an infection will target a specific Anti-virus. They will target any PC thats on the internet, if the person using the PC has inadequate protection then the computer may get infections. Whats an infection going to do  -- look to see if the target computer is using MSSE, and if it isn't move on, but only attack computers using MSSE -- give me a break. |

2011-04-04 10:59:00 | Visited a relative of Mrs T down country while on holiday and ended up looking at his business computer for him, an HP running XP Pro and with quite reasonable specs. He wanted me to find and install a dvd burner for him, which I did, but the computer was slow as a wet week, had all sorts of garbage running on it, and used Norman AV which I suggested he get shot of and instal MSE instead. Norman? Yes, you heard me right, Norman! It is a product out of Norway, he pays for it and it is so obscure it is hard to find a decent review, however the web consensus is that it is a resource hog and is rubbish. He reckoned it was the world's top AV, bar none and wouldn't hear a word against it (probably confusing it with Nortons which would not surprise me.. He wouldn't hear of using Ccleaner, it wouldn't/couldn't run Windows defrag, disk check found and fixed some errors and I cleaned out some garbage while he wasn't looking that did speed it up a bit, but in the end I just had to leave him to it. I'm no expert but given an hour on my own and a free hand I'm pretty sure I could have got it a lot better. Cheers Billy 8-{)

2011-04-05 11:08:00 | People tend not to read the license for AVG - unless it has changed it says "Free for personal use only - one copy only" or words to that effect. If this is still true it should not be installed on a network unless it is purchased. | johnd (85) | |
2011-04-05 21:18:00 | MSE is a home use only product IIRC. Don't see how that could be, or even if it could be policed. My computer is for business, and my brother in law has a home office. MSE isn't that smart! Cheers Billy 8-{)
