If we don't agree with you or Zipperty and a few others then the thread should be locked.

If you can't handle the contents don't read it.

Simple really. :D

Is the robot from Australia there to rescue the one from NZ or not? This is what you suggested.

1155505 2010-11-23 20:10:00 If you have a look at the Mine layout (static.stuff.co.nz), and where the men were meant to be, it can still be possible that some are alive.

While I know nothing about mining - you can never give up hope until you are 100% sure.

Some people here obviously have experience in mining and know what they are talking about, some others are just like the explosion- all hot air and wind ;)

1155506 2010-11-23 20:12:00 The new robot could go in with a rope behind it and attach it to the stalled robot when it gets to it and carry on the old robot could be pulled out. prefect (6291)

Well according to one report I heard it is going to have to because our broken one is blocking the way. :groan:

Maybe it can just climb over the top but that wouldn’t be very ANZAC like now would it?

But regardless of whose Robot works, none of them are any help to the trapped Miners.

The whole Robot thing is just an exercise in futility.

1155508 2010-11-23 20:39:00 Why should the thread be closed ?
They miners have not been rescued or found yet.
This topic will go on for months in the mainstream media, and so it should. There are 29 men involved.

Surely we are allowed to comment ?
And yes we all have different points of view, that is human nature.
As long as we remain civil to each other.

And I'd like to think that us PC users we are a tad more intelligent than non PC users (I suppose we can include Mac users here as well) so surely we have some good ideas.

With three robots in there they will need a policeman to direct the traffic !

Robocop - now that was a good movie!

1155510 2010-11-23 20:46:00 Digby,

Of course we should be able to discuss this terrible event - as long as we do so in a civilised manner.

Some of the snide comments about the actions of the rescuers, however, go beyond the pale.

Yes Digby, it’s a sad background to what has become a sitcom.

However, I guess we can draw some comfort from the fact that an Australian Army Explosive Consultant has come out and said what we’ve been saying all along.

The window of opportunity was as soon as possible after the blast, the Police are not the right people to have in charge and two to four men should have been fitted up and dispatched into the Mine within 90 minutes of the explosion.

I wonder what would happen if a Robot was to find an alive but injured Miner?

How good are these Robots at First Aid?

How can anybody have made snide remarks about the rescuers?

There are none, there has been none, and there will be none until Mr Plod can smell the roses.

He has forbidden entry to the mine until he is satisfied the air is to his liking.

Unfortunately, this is never going to happen unless he changes his specifications. :(
