1191955	2011-04-04 12:50:00	I have been checking out an iP4000 printer which was said to be working OK then suddenly stopped. When it is plugged in and switched on the power-on LED does not light. I have not pulled the switch out but with the top cover off I can access the switch terminals. I can't see them properly but there appear to be 4 of them (all soldered) though I suspect that 2 may simply be legs for mounting the switch on its small sub-board. One of the terminals registers about 3.4v (I think it was DC but may have been AC - tested some weeks ago). The switch is connected to the main board, not directly to the 230v phase. No other terminal is livened when the switch is turned on. I can't see any sign of a 230v standard glass fuse when peering around with the top cover off but haven't had the main board out. There may be one of those small thermal fuse thingees somewhere (can't remember what they're called). Are there any other other tests/checks that a diyer can do (I know little about electronics)? Do these printers have a habit of open circuiting? TIA.	Robin S_ (86)

1191957	2011-04-04 23:55:00	Thanks for that clue. I haven't really been inside it yet. I forgot to mention that I had exchanged cables with another printer. The other cable had the same result with this printer and this printer's cable worked OK with the other printer.	Robin S_ (86)
1191958	2011-04-05 02:40:00	Definitely test the power pack then, I think they slide out from underneath after releasing a couple of clips but i'm sure instructions can be found using google. I had an IP3000 and at the time 18-24 months ago it was going to be $80 to replace, luckily the place I took it to here in Nelson had a dead printer the same sitting on the shelf so they let me have the PSU from it for $30	gary67 (56)

I have had the power pack out (I didn't realise that that was what the gizmo was) and suspect that I may have tried interchanging it with the one from my iP4000 to no avail, but I'll check on that when I get a chance. Any other suggestions (anyone) if the p/p turns out to be OK?	Robin S_ (86)
1191960	2011-04-05 22:19:00	Interesting... I've been given an iP4300 to have a look at, it has the same problem as yours - won't turn on. The PSU claims two rails, 26 and 32v DC but measurement of the outputs finds only 10 and 7 volts. This may not be a problem, however. The PSU has 5 wires, one each for the two rails and of course another two for ground for each. Then there is a 5th wire which measures 0 volts and which I assume is the startup wire, probably pulled high or something when the printer's power button is pressed, to fully wake the PSU up (possibly it runs on the lower voltage as a standby mode) I couldn't find the service manual for the iP4300 but I think I found one for the iP4200 instead. It said in case of power failure either replace the PSU or logic board :groan: If I can find the iP4000 service manual I can send you a copy, might help you? 1191961	2011-04-06 00:27:00	Thanks Agent. I think I have got a copy of the iP4000 service manual somewhere but hadn't resorted to that because I was hoping there might be a known simple cause. Here is the link I have for the manual - it might give you some clues for yours - timtaylor.net Service Manual.pdf Apparently Canon guard their service manuals very closely and they are therefore hard to come by. 1191962	2011-04-18 13:11:00	Have now tried interchanging the power packs between the duff and a good Ip4000. No change. The duff one's power light doesn't show and the duff's power pack works OK in the good printer. Any other ideas, anyone?	Robin S_ (86)
1191963	2011-04-18 14:23:00	Must be the 'logic board' then I must get around to opening this one here and seeing if I can spot anything obviously wrong. Hey, might even be something as silly as a broken switch or something. Have you taken a look inside yours or just changed the power adapter? Thanks for the link to the manual too.	Agent_24 (57)

Wifey has gone through all the IP4's, just a pack of the proverbial !. She of course has kept up with the JONES's her friend's real name too and bought a MP640 and handed down to moi her old IP4500, so far no probs. Lurking.
