1191798 2011-04-04 00:24:00 Trying to update a friends xp hp laptop which has not being used for a year or so, it is connected to my network which is fine but ie8 wont display the webpage, i have gone through microsoft support and after trying everything it still wont display, i have tried firefox with the same problem, pulling my hair out PeterQ (16315)
1191799 2011-04-04 00:37:00 Proxy maybe ticked / enabled somewhere. In IE go to Tools / Internet options / connections / LAN settings. If the proxy option is ticked, untick it Speedy Gonzales (78)
1191800 2011-04-04 00:41:00 No, tried that PeterQ (16315)
1191801 2011-04-04 00:43:00 Reset its settings, then try. Get teamviewer and I can check from here. Since it can get on the net Speedy Gonzales (78)
1191802 2011-04-04 01:22:00 No i have already tried that, will get back to you shortly, i am thinking it could be in the windows updates, but unsure how to update when it cannot connect properly PeterQ (16315)
1191803 2011-04-04 01:27:00 Go into properties on the network adapter in network connections. Under Ipv4 give it an ip and add the DNS servers Speedy Gonzales (78)
1191804 2011-04-04 01:51:00 not too sure how to do this as in vista it canbe set up automatically but im trying xp PeterQ (16315)
1191805 2011-04-04 02:57:00 Normally its on auto. But see if giving it an ip gets it on the net. But you'll need DNS server ips (use the ISP's), to get on the net. If you use a router the ip you type in should be within its valid ip range. It should fill in subnet. Just type in gateway (the routers ip if you use one). Speedy Gonzales (78)
1191806 2011-04-04 04:23:00 Maybe thats the problem, its not on auto now.
Do an ipconfig, what do you get? Check IP and DNS settings.
Ping somewhere.
