1155007 2010-11-21 02:09:00 Hi,

I would like to build a computer which can handle the latest games and have put together the following list of parts. Does anyone have any suggestions on changes to this to make it either cheaper or better value for money? Note: this will be the first computer I have ever built, I used the gpforums component guide (www.gpforums.co.nz) to choose most of the parts.

CL Extreme ASUS P7P55D-E LX + i5 760 Combo (www.computerlounge.co.nz) (Motherboard, CPU and 4 GB RAM) $679

2x Seagate Barracuda 500GB (www.playtech.co.nz) $64.99

Antec Three Hundred ATX Mid Tower Case (www.ascent.co.nz) 108.92

CORSAIR HX650 650W MODULAR POWER SUPPLY (www.computerlounge.co.nz) $199

HIS ATI HD6870 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E (www.computerlounge.co.nz) $419

Asus Lightscribe SATA 24x DVD RW Black Retail (www.elive.co.nz) $52.70

ARCTIC COOLING FREEZER 7 PRO REV2 CPU COOLER (www.computerlounge.co.nz) $55

ASUS VE246H 24" (www.computerlounge.co.nz) $309

Microsoft Windows 7 Pro 1 User 64 Bit - OEM Version (www.elive.co.nz) $229.40

Total Price: $2182
I would prefer that the price not go any higher than around this figure.

Thanks in advance.

1155008 2010-11-21 21:52:00 depending on how fast you want your graphics, the ATI 6900 series (replacement for 5870) will be out in about a months time if you can wait that long. utopian201 (6245)
1155009 2010-11-21 22:20:00 Looks damn good to me, except I would get an Asus or Gigabyte graphics card, and if you wanted to save a few $$ and you weren't planning on OCing you could get away quite happily with the factory CPU cooler. wratterus (105)

The only thing I would say is, if going x64bit, double that RAM to 8GB, x64 loves RAM . . . . . the pre-caching will work better with greater RAM on this system!
