1192969 2011-04-08 12:58:00 Hey all

Appreciate if I could get a little advise here.

I recently encounter a problem after installing a new graphic card, MSI Radeon 6850 Cyclone on my current system.

Afterwhich, I updated the drivers and reboot.
However, windows 7 ultimate started very slow boot, approx 5 mins into desktop.

Upon which, I suspect the problem might lies with the BIOS. I then updated the BIOS through liveupdates 4 (MSI) which prove to be a grave mistake.
This eventually leads to problem 1)

The symptoms are:
1. White taskbAr, window interface turn to the old windows interface type.
2. No aero theme available.
3. Under network page, no network is available and it state: "dependency service or group fail to start"
4. Under system in control panel, processor and memory indicate " not available "
5. Under system restore window, it state "volume shadow

My drivers are all there but can't detect the hardware(eg. Audio)

Basically I can't do anything to the com except accessing basic ms word and documents.

Since then, I have contacted MSI online technical support. They are nice to provide me a updated bios file.

I follow their instructions carefully and flash the bios through setup -> M flash
After bios is updated, this led to problem 2.

-The computer can't boot up. there is no signal to the screen.

A few advise later from MSI asking me to reset CMOS and stuff.
I did that but nothing works.

Finally, enough is enough and I brought the motherboard for RMA.
They were kind enough to replace a mother board immedidately.

I went back home, fix up everything. The com boot up.
I thought everything was over but when it finally boot up.

There it was, back to problem 1.

I really have no idea whether the problem lies with the OS or BIOS.
For anyone who has encounter this problem before, and for those who can give any professional advise, plz kindly help.

My system is as below

Processor :AMD Phenom 2 X940
Motherboard :MSI 785GTM-E45
Memory :4gb ram
Graphic :MSI 6850 Radeon Cyclone
Sound :Creative Xfi extreme music

1192970 2011-04-08 13:11:00 Are you in NZ or somewhere else Han?

After you installed Win7, did you install the chipset drivers before anything else?

Since its got onboard DVI/VGA/HDMI, did you try any of these, to see if they did the same thing as problem 1?

After you updated the BIOS, did you reset the BIOS settings, then reconfigure the BIOS settings then save them?

Did you install the ATI drivers after you installed the ATI card?

Problem 1 doesnt sounds like its a result of flashing / updating the BIOS

It sounds like the BIOS doesnt support the CPU thats on the mobo. If it shows CPU not available

The only 940 CPU's on the site are:

Phenom II X4 Deneb HDZ940XCJ4DGI 940 200 3.00 2M 6M C2 125 7549v80.zip

Phenom II X4 Deneb HDZ940XCJ4DGI 940 200 3.00 2M 6M C2 125 7549vG0.zip

Are one these CPU's yours?

Which driver did you use - the one from ATIs website? You should have.

Also what card did you have before? ATi or Nvidia, if Nvidia, did you remove the old driver first???

Thank you for your reply.I'm from Singapore

After you installed Win7, did you install the chipset drivers before anything else?

I didnt install windows 7, I bought a new graphic card and install only updated graphic card drivers from MSI website and bios update

Since its got onboard DVI/VGA/HDMI, did you try any of these, to see if they did the same thing as problem 1?

Nope, I'm only using external cards for graphics and sound.

After you updated the BIOS, did you reset the BIOS settings, then reconfigure the BIOS settings then save them?

Nope

Did you install the ATI drivers after you installed the ATI card?

I install the drivers from MSI website. Under device managers, it clearly shows the device.

Yes

Anyway, some updates.
I went out for the day yesterday, came back in the night and I can't boot up the PC.

Back to problem 2.
I went back to the service center this morning. They inform me it's a ram failure. They told me the system actually boot up with using their own ram.
So 2 piece of 2gb ram failure out of no reason?

Just yesterday, I brought in the mb with cpu and the ram and they change the board and assure me everything was working fine.
No mention of any other damaged components.

Well, eventually the convince me so probably I going to the ram manufacture for RMA on Monday.

Never mind that, so I did point out problem 1 to them. They did some test, but I guess they could'nt find the root cause. What they advise me to do is to reinstall windows once I got my Ram up.

Hi there, thanks for your reply.
I got the drivers for the new graphic card from MSI website.

Before this, I'm using Nvidia Leadtek 7600GT.

What I did to remove the Nvidia drivers is only to uninstall the Nvidia.
Start - Control Panel -Uninstall a program

Is there any other steps or procedures to remove completely?

1192974 2011-04-09 12:24:00 To remove the drivers completely, try Driver Sweeper (downloads.guru3d.com) install and run it ( thats the download page) - click on I agree to get the download.

If uninstalling nvidia, just be careful what you select, if you have other nvidia drivers make sure you dont take them out eg: the chipset. Main Page showing the program (www.guru3d.com)

Once you start it uninstalling dont stop it - it will take a while sometimes, but you'll get a message popping up when its finished.
