1192935 2011-04-08 04:13:00 Hi Guys

Looking at getting a new laptop and thought I'd get some 2cents from other people. Any general comments anyone can give me on either of these? Good and bad!

HP ProBook 4520s www.pbtech.co.nz

or

Pavilion dv6-3220TX www.dse.co.nz

Thanks in Advance

1192936 2011-04-08 05:02:00 I believe the pro books are more reliable than the DV series, although the DV linked has a better GPU (slightly), and also switchable to integrated. (the pro book doesn't list it)

Judging by the sheets though, it looks like they both have a single 4gb stick of ram. Might be nice to stick in another one for dual channel.

Other than that, they're pretty identical. I'd check them out and see who can do the best deal, although I'd be more inclined to swing towards the pro book due to the supposed build quality (google around / wait for other opinions first though.. don't take my word for it)

1192938 2011-04-08 07:28:00 Probook!
They are aimed more for business use so have better quality parts and Win7 Pro.
They also have a 7200rpm HDD while the dv6 is only 5400rpm, this will make a big difference in speed.

1192939 2011-04-08 07:56:00 I own a DV5 and it is a nice laptop but not really for gaming.

I would prefer the Probook as it has a higher build quality and is more robust and bussiness like compared to the DV series. But for media and entertainment I would say DV6.

1192941 2011-04-08 09:04:00 I pesonally wouldn't touch an HP laptop. icow (15313)
1192942 2011-04-08 10:18:00 DSE link didn't work, but the ProBook looked nice, on paper anyway.

But I wouldn't buy HP, so personally I'd get a Toshiba instead...

Agreed.

It seems that's the conventional wisdom on PF1 and I'm not an expert. However I have two business level HP laptops, 7 years and 4 years old respectively. Both run well, are completely reliable, and I cannot fault them.
