1192876 2011-04-07 23:10:00 Hi There.
I need a Vista home Premium OEM install CD, ISO whatever.
NOT for bad reasons :badpc:
I have a genuine COA, I just need to do a retore install to attempt to fix a laptop , of course they dont come with install CD's
I like to try a restore install before a re-image.

Or does anyone have links on instructions to making install CD's from the 'I386' files

Can anyone pm me with where I might download one from, NOT cracked one, as I have a install key.

Cheers

1192877 2011-04-07 23:14:00 See if theres a hidden partition on it. There maybe ISO's on / in it. If there are burn them Speedy Gonzales (78)
1192878 2011-04-07 23:19:00 Theres a recovery partition. From past experience this wont be much help but I'll have another look 1101 (13337)
1192879 2011-04-07 23:44:00 maybe try vlite (http://vlite.net) at least with XP equivalent of vlite you could just give it the i386 folder and it would create a bootable cd for you never tried with vista because I've always had the oem disks. razzarphenix (2626)
1192880 2011-04-08 00:00:00 I just checked, there is no i386 folder :groan: 1101 (13337)
1192881 2011-04-08 00:06:00 Can you get the OS to boot at all? toshiba usually have the recovery media tool that you can use to make recovery dvd's. razzarphenix (2626)
1192882 2011-04-08 00:22:00 No the OS wont load. The fixes for this issue dont work .
It may just be a complete re-image then.

I read that all the Vista install CD's are the same, just need to edit one
file to make it home, business, premium etc. Anyone tried that ??
I may have a Vista Bus DVD. Will need to check what actually on
it.

Cheers

1192883 2011-04-08 00:30:00 Remove the hdd put it in a working system. Then see whats on the other partition Speedy Gonzales (78)
1192884 2011-04-08 00:43:00 Ive had the HD out & had a look via another PC.
Recovery partition contains no Vista install files, just HP image file & various
other HP files
Ive decided to re-image, just to get the thing running .

But I'd still like to 'obtain' a install CD for Vista OEM, been a few times
that this would have bneen pretty helpfull.
The usual download sites seem to have install CD's that have been tampered with, adding or removing components/SP's. Im after a untouched ISO.

I may see if can convert the Vista Bus CD to Vista home when I have a bit more time.
I known that Win7 CD's can be converted to any version, but still need the appropriate install key of course.

1192885 2011-04-08 01:11:00 The recovery image would be something akin to ghost etc.. so I wouldn't expect i386 files in there unless you can mount the image and extract it first, before blowing it away I would try and use the recovery partition if its intact then you should see if you can boot from the OEM recovery mode (depends on the model as to which key you have to hold down to trigger it).

Alternatively Toshiba sell for around $70 the recovery disc's relative to the laptop model.
