1156743 2010-11-26 08:42:00 I was most excited to receive one today, couldn't wait to get into a proper techy discussion on it.

What a disappointment, he just kept reading off his script:

Your PC has had software damage from viruses. We are from Microsoft. Your PC has had software damage from Viruses. We are from Microsoft.............and on and on.

No fun at all.

1156744 2010-11-26 08:50:00 Lucky you - what a let down, couldn't have some fun. :crying

Strange though - I DID get a call from Microsoft (legit one too) I know the call was legit, because I know who the caller was, she calls me about once a month. When they first started calling me, they actually could confirm certain OEM purchases I got from Ingram Micro and a couple of my other Suppliers -- No Script reading either. I gave them the 20 questions - to confirm they were who they said they are -- Things only MS would know.

Edited: dont know why she always rings at about 5.30pm

1156750 2010-11-26 20:48:00 How bizarre. WHy?? ONCE and only once - when doing some OEM / System builder signups ( several years ago) I ticked "allow MS to contact me".

Now they call every so often wanting to find out why I dont install X number of server software -- and try to convince me that theres huge gains in installing servers etc -- had to be "firm" and tell them -- most of my work is residential, and home users are not interested in expensive servers.

Latest one is office 2010 ------- already onto those though by telling them I install the starter edition on New PC AFTER seeing if the person actually wants a full version, (home & student or above) etc.

I know it is MS as when I questioned them, they actually quoted back some details Only MS would know.

1156751 2010-11-26 22:37:00 Bugger, hope they call me .. I'd *love* to have some fun with them!

Be really keen to ask them about another error that I just happen to have been getting right before they ring :p

What happens if your PC is too infected to do what they ask?
