1156445 2010-11-29 07:23:00 Assuming (as you've got a Thompson modem) you've gone with Telecom, the installation instructions will advise you to go here
telecom.custhelp.com 3D
Where it says Network Key in the requester, it means Wireless key (from the modem bottom's label), type it in upper case.
To access the wireless modem you will need an internal or usb wireless adapter on your desktop (unless it's already fitted/built-in, unlikely (usually standard on a laptop though)), though you can hook up the desktop with an ethernet cable (wired) to the Thompson (will usually connect automatically), until you get the adapter.

1156448 2010-11-30 04:07:00 Yeah, you can set it up but without a connection to your computer you won't get any internet connection from it.

If you want to use Ethernet, you will need to get a longer cable.

Right-Click on the 'NVIDIA nForce MCP Networking controller' and choose "Enable"

1156450 2010-11-30 04:20:00 if you don't have wireless and the network cable is not long enough - then you don't have a connection. you need one or the other.

you could use a laptop if you have one and it has wireless.

or move the PC closer :D

or just maybe for the meantime use a telephone extension cable til you get a longer network cable.

1156451 2010-11-30 04:21:00 also another question............

i have a phone jack nxt to computer, i have never been able to get a phone to work off this jack...... can you fix these easily? or does it require a rewire ?
i spose that is the same as asking how long is a peice of string?

can i fix it myself? if it has the correct wires sticking out can i re cut them ?

sigh not sure what im asking........

any suggestions appreciated. other wise i need a hole put in the wall or about 5 meters of ethernet cable......

beetle

1156453 2010-11-30 04:29:00 i dont have a laptop, i do have phone cables . . . . . . . . so i could use that to set up and tomorow go buy some cable?????

oh joy,

i guess somehow at present you are using a telephone extension cable for dialup, temporarily you can use that cable to plug into your router . then use the short network cable into your PC until you get a longer network cable .

re: the phone jack, it is possible for individuals to rewire it, ie . , buy a new jack box . But if that is not the cause of the problems . . . . it could worth a bash, would work out much neater than a long network cable (!) .

1156454 2010-11-30 04:30:00 So, it didnt come with an ethernet cable?

If it did, I can check out the entry in device manager if you want with teamviewer. It maybe a bit slow since youre on dialup tho
