If you want to use WiFi and don't already have a card or USB adapter then I suppose you should order one as well. Though, If your ADSL connection is going to be in the same room as your PC etc, I would suggest go with wired Ethernet. It's easier to set up, more reliable and also more secure. |

| 1156440 | 2010-11-28 23:07:00 | if it's just that computer i would just run a phone extension cable to be honest. router without wireless feature would be cheaper too and no need to buy usb gear. have you got any other computers? like a laptop that would be useful to have wireless for sure. with wifi, all you do is go into setup and set up a password. the first time a wireless computer connect to it, you put this password in and it saves it, in future you don't have to retype it. cheers :D Edit, if it's opposite to the wall you might not want to smash holes or run a long cable to the other room ... so i would get wireless :D |

Don't put your ADSL router on the end of a phone extension cable!! It is very likely to make your ADSL connection slow and unreliable. Use a long Ethernet cable instead, if you are going to use wired. |

Edit. oh :o yeah if you have a really long extension cable better not to use it .. use a shorter std cable to the phone jack and then use a long network cable to the puter. We have a 5 or 8m and i get a solid 13-14Mbps via the GUI setup. |

No need to be in Network Setup Wizard. To get into device manager in XP, right click on My Computer, go to properties, hardware tab, then Device Manager. Should look something like this (although this screenshot is from vista). Not all wireless adapters have a/b/g/n/whatever in their titles. My wireless adapter is the highlighted one. kit that comes with everything.. It's all very much plug-and-play. Just set your network address settings to automatic (may be labeled as DHCP). The default wireless settings are very good too, extremely secure default passwords (printed on the bottom of the modem). |
