1156147 2010-12-01 02:54:00 Retail has been very tough for all this year - As the article mentioned Noels has struggled but they are in a better position than the year before so going in the right direction.

There have been some of the Bond's closing but as many new Noels etc. opening as well as their new kitchen place:

From what I have heard market share for Noels has been well up on it's closest competitors so I can't see them going anywhere....Bond & Bond has been around since the late 1800's so they have been going strong in NZ for over 100 years!

Cheers

1156148 2010-12-01 03:04:00 No matter what store you buy it from, you'll always get ripped off.

In the end you are paying an overpriced amount for shoddy service because NZ is a dumping ground for old tech that is wrapped up and marketed as the latest and greatest.

Manufacturers love NZ because we are all too stupid to realise that what we are buying is 2nd rate trash that couldn't be sold anywhere else.

Actual examples would be nice!

I have found NZ up to date with most kit.

1156151 2010-12-01 03:50:00 Looks Dick smith may not be too good either. I was in the Manukau, Auckland "Superstore" last weekend and it was about half the size it was several months ago. I asked if they were doing renovations and they told be that the stores were be downsized.. paulw (1826)
1156152 2010-12-01 03:54:00 All the DSE stores in ChCh that I have seen recently have been upsized and radically re-designed. John H (8)
1156153 2010-12-01 05:01:00 Dickhead SMITH's is a fully owned subsidiary of the Woolworths Group of Australia, if it is closing or downsizing branches it is because Woolworths have decided, not because the company is in financial trouble (unfortunately) KenESmith (6287)

Like what? We get the latest GPUs and stuff pretty soon after release. We're hardly buying last years now.

Or are we talking about fridges? In which case who cares.

1156156 2010-12-01 08:00:00 Whenever I go into NL, there really is not many customers .

Things are expensive .
Not much selection . Each shelf area is quite narrow whereas HN's are much wider (longer) .

The last item we bought was a $10 2GB USB thumb drive :D

True - NL and DSE small goods are too costly . I buy from ebay for 10 to 40% of the price for some (non branded) items . So do Trademe bulk sellers, as have bid against some TM sellers on ebay for watches .
