1193509 2011-04-12 04:20:00 Just for the hell of it I ran the same thread on HowToGeek, and it developed into a nice little discussion, not necessarily on topic. If you're interested here's the link (www.howtogeek.com).

One of the most sensible revelations was that you don't have to put on clean clothes every day!!

1193510 2011-04-12 04:41:00 What you need is one of these (www.efergy.com). They clamp to the live feed in your meter box. Friends from England say everyone is using them now over there and some get them free from their power company. I'm thinking about getting one later this year maybe gary67 (56)

We're with Genesis and they recently installed a smart meter. I can now go to their site (which always responds relatively slowly), burrow my way down a few levels, and implement a line or bar graph, or a table, showing my consumption. I can even get it in hourly increments for a particular day. I've just tried it - at the moment they don't have my usage from Friday to today!!

1193513 2011-04-12 15:12:00 I just brought a plug in meter from Dick Smith because I had so much plugged into one socket I was worried. 4 - 5 computers, two monitors, a NAS box, Laser printer. Plus other stuff.
The meter shows it drawing 3 amps with everything cruising but never more than 3.6 amps. Puts the mind at rest and gives power usage, cost, etc. Pretty cheap if you want to know how much something uses. Can be moved from hotpoint to hotpoint at will.

Better than some program that probably slows your CPU down to idle speed and claims t is saving you money. probably is but the computer is then crippled.
