1192945 2011-04-08 11:41:00 From experience over the years, the business class HP's are a lot better quality than the cheap rubbish pavilions.

Basically confirming what Winston001 posted.

Thats usually why the business ones cost more- get what you pay for.

1192946 2011-04-08 13:47:00 +1 for Probook .

The Probook has a 9 cell battery, while most consumer laptops typically only has 6 cell . This approximates to longer battery life on one charge . You don't want to be forced to discontinue your work because your laptop's battery is down and you don't have a power point near you .

Also, Probook comes with a numeric keypad . They are immensely useful if you're typing numbers at all .

Not to mention Probook's better build quality . . .

1192948 2011-04-08 23:04:00 Probook also has dedicated GPU chip, so wont that bad....I'd have the business class Probook over Consumer Pavilion any day SolMiester (139)

Probook's dedicated graphics chip is there just to mean that graphic demands won't eat into RAM, which is a good thing (integrated graphics need to take some RAM from the system) .

But forget about gaming on a 6370m . It can't handle anything too advanced . But tell me your laptop is not for gaming . . .

I still prefer Probook, but don't expect too much on graphics performance, just because there's a dedicated graphics .

1192950 2011-04-09 01:44:00 My laptop handles games alright with a 5470. Although, despite having 'dedicated graphics' it also (since I upped to 4gb ram) chomps into my ram slightly, not that I mind that. I pull an extra few frames on the more texture heavy games as a result. 8ftmetalhaed (14526)
1192951 2011-04-09 20:48:00 ProBook seems to come with 32 bit Win 7 meaning it would be a waste of time upgrading your Ram - DV6 at least come with 64bit Win 7.

Another consideration for you.

1192952 2011-04-09 22:47:00 The probooks come with both 32bit & 64bit.
I think you get the option when you first turn it on. If not it does come with recovery discs to put it on. The dv model won't come with discs, you'll have to make them yourself.

1192953 2011-04-09 22:59:00 I would say wait till the new i5/7s come to NZ. It's bound to happen sooner rather than later. Cato (6936)

HP's business models also aren't preloaded with software. The older business models came with the install discs for WinXP 32/64 and 7 32/64.

Agreed.
It seems that's the conventional wisdom on PF1 and I'm not an expert. However I have two business level HP laptops, 7 years and 4 years old respectively. Both run well, are completely reliable, and I cannot fault them.

I agree, the posters who say HP suck are referring to the consumer/compaq line as they obviously haven't used probooks/elitebooks.
