2011-04-06 22:48:00 | Sweet! On a related note, I need a new laptop. I figure I will just buy one from NZ and have it shipped here so I don't have to worry about power conversion after I move. Where is a good site in NZ (or anywhere that uses the same power type) to grab a laptop from? | Vserer (16320) | |
2011-04-06 22:52:00 | Laptop power supplies are generally universal, and will quite happily accept anything from 110-240v at 50-60Hz. It would be a *very* rare one that lacked this capability. | Erayd (23) | |
2011-04-06 22:53:00 | True, but I'm talking more about the power cord its self. It can be a pain to get a power cord for a specific laptop. Since we have different ones here in Canada I'd rather just get one that fits NZ and use a power converter until I move. Unless there's a better way I'm not considering? | Vserer (16320) | |
2011-04-06 22:56:00 | Maybe you need something more robust? But for my laptop, maybe you could just use a water boiler cord ... This cord on mine just detaches off the "brick unit". Yes get when you are in NZ. You could just get a travel adaptor from Canada .... - a shape converter.

The cord from the wall to the laptop power brick has a universal connector. :) It's the power brick to the laptop itself that's the tricky part ;) |

2011-04-06 23:05:00 | All laptops I have for like 10yrs are auto sensing ... so that's generally not a issue at all. Get a new cord in NZ or get a travel adaptor in Canada .... Like these www.travelcomfortable.com

2011-04-07 05:49:00 | Any laptop/desktop you buy in NZ will naturally come with a NZ plug fitted. If you google for 'our' plug you will see what it is like. Do you know someone here who will buy one for you & send it over? PJ | Poppa John (284) | |
